The first quarries began to develop in the Petřín area during the Roman period. The stone from the hill was subsequently used as a building material for many houses in Prague. The hill, previously covered with trees, began to "bald".
There was also a gallows next to the church of St. Lawrence. Not only criminals were executed here, but also people susceptible to viral motives.
When representatives of the Přemyslid family were killed by members of the Slavnikov family in Libice in 995, it happened on Petřín Hill - they were simply hung up on the gallows. Later, executions were carried out outside the city or on the fortifications of Sibenicni, a hill "equipped" specifically for this.
When the Wall of Famine was completed on the orders of Charles IV, many artisans were forced to move to its surroundings. Tinsmiths, blacksmiths and others began to settle there. At that time, vineyards began to be planted on Petřín.
