Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring—it was peace. They have a way of finding the people who need them and filling an emptiness we didn’t even know we had, asking for nothing in return but our presence. In their eyes, we are never too old, too poor, or too broken; we are simply their whole world, and they give us their absolute all every single day.
