🌱 Підтримка відновлення сільського господарства України через знання, інновації та партнерство
25 серпня делегація представників Уряду України, а також наукових і освітніх установ відвідала JICA в рамках програми, присвяченої аналізу ґрунтів та відновленню сільськогосподарських земель.
З 24 серпня по 2 вересня делегація ознайомиться з досвідом японських науково-дослідних інститутів, університетів та інших організацій під час семінарів, технічних дискусій та навчальних візитів. Учасники обмінюються знаннями та експертним досвідом у сферах оцінки стану ґрунтів, екологічного моніторингу та відновлення сільськогосподарських угідь, що постраждали внаслідок війни.
прагне ділитися японським досвідом і знаннями у сфері відновлення сільського господарства та довкілля. У тісній співпраці з Урядом України та партнерськими організаціями JICA підтримуватиме розвиток спроможності для відновлення безпечних і продуктивних сільськогосподарських земель, зміцнення продовольчої безпеки та формування більш стійкого аграрного сектору України.

🌱 Supporting Ukraine's agricultural recovery through knowledge, innovation, and partnership.
On August 25, a delegation of officials from the Government of Ukraine and representatives from academic and research institutions visited JICA as part of a program on soil analysis and farmland restoration.
From August 24 to September 2, the delegation is engaging with Japanese research institutes, universities, and other organizations through seminars, technical discussions, and field visits. Participants are exchanging knowledge and expertise on soil assessment, environmental monitoring, and farmland restoration approaches that support the recovery of agricultural land affected by the war.
is committed to sharing Japan's expertise and experience in agricultural recovery and environmental restoration. Through continued cooperation with the Government of Ukraine and partner organizations, JICA will support capacity development efforts to restore safe and productive farmland, strengthen food security, and build a more resilient agricultural sector in Ukraine.

On 13 August, JICA handed over equipment for demining and mine action to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), marking a lasting and strong partnership in the shared effort toward a mine-free Ukraine. The equipment handed over included three Mobile Workshops, eight Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Vehicles, and two Mine Reconnaissance Systems, “MinesEye,” developed by the Postup Foundation.
Notably, the ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Nakagome, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, who has demonstrated strong leadership in the humanitarian mine action sector and is soon completing his tenure in Ukraine. As a testament to the close cooperation fostered over the years, the ceremony also brought together key officials in the sector, including Mr. Drapiatyi, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine; Mr. Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy and Environment of Ukraine; and Mr. Myroniuk, First Deputy Head of SESU.
On the occasion, Mr. Hattori, Chief Representative of the JICA Ukraine Office, emphasized that all of the equipment shares a common objective: making mine action safer, more efficient, and more effective for the people of Ukraine. He further noted that JICA’s ultimate goal is to help people return safely to their communities, restore their livelihoods, and support the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.

З 22 червня по 29 липня 2026 року у центрі JICA Кюсю (Японія) проходило стажування «Hospital Management». Учасниця програми Анна Дорохіна, медичний директор ДУ ННЦ "Інститут кардіології імені академіка М.Д. Стражеска" НАМНУ, співробітник кафедри менеджменту охорони здоров’я Національний медичний університет імені О.О. Богомольця, поділилася своїми враженнями від програми.
«Важлива ідея японського Hospital Management: покращення якості управління не завжди починається з додаткового фінансування. Значний резерв системи - в ефективнішому використанні вже наявних можливостей завдяки вдосконаленню, стандартизації та кращій організації процесів.
Думаю, що для України може бути цікавим досвід Японії в таких сферах: iнтеграція екстреної медичної та пожежно-рятувальної служб, національна сертифікація ELST (Emergency Life-saving Technicians) і безперервне навчання персоналу. Важливу роль також відіграє підхід 5S–Kaizen–TQM, що забезпечує стандартизацію та постійне вдосконалення процесів. Окрема увага приділяється системі повідомлення про інциденти та near-miss, яка допомагає виявляти ризики, запобігати помилкам і розвивати культуру безпеки без пошуку винних. Особливо мене вразив підхід до культури безпеки: збільшення кількості повідомлень про інциденти може свідчити не про погіршення безпеки, а про кращу видимість ризиків і розвиток культури повідомлення»

From June 22 to July 29, 2026, the Kyushu Center (Japan) hosted the training program “Hospital Management”. Anna Dorokhina, Medical Director of and a staff member of the Department of Healthcare Management at , shared her impressions of the program.
“One of the key lessons from Japanese hospital management is that improving the quality of management does not always require additional funding. A significant opportunity for strengthening the healthcare system lies in making better use of existing resources through continuous improvement, standardization, and more effective process management.
I believe Japan’s experience could be particularly valuable for Ukraine in several areas, including the integration of emergency medical and fire-rescue services, national certification of Emergency Life-saving Technicians (ELSTs), and continuous professional development for healthcare personnel. Equally important is the 5S-Kaizen-TQM approach, which supports process standardization and continuous improvement.
Special attention is also paid to incident and near-miss reporting systems, which help identify risks, prevent errors, and foster a non-blame safety culture. What impressed me most was the approach to safety culture: an increase in incident reports may indicate not a decline in safety, but rather greater visibility of risks and a stronger culture of reporting.”

З 23 по 30 липня делегація психіатрів Національний медичний університет імені О.О. Богомольця та Івано-Франківський національний медичний університет відвідала Японію в рамках програми запрошення JICA.
Під час 25-ї щорічної конференції Японської асоціації з вивчення травматичного стресу (JSTSS) учасники делегації представили постери та взяли участь у сесії «Обмін знаннями про травму в умовах війни та стихійних лих: діалог між Україною та Японією». Під час заходу було висвітлено досягнення у лікуванні ПТСР, а також трансформацію системи психічного здоров’я України з 2022 року.
Делегація обмінялася досвідом із фахівцями Національного центру неврології та психіатрії Японії (NCNP) та взяла участь у семінарі з Травма-інформованого підходу (TIП), організованому професором Дайсуке Нісі в Токійському університеті. Крім того, учасники ознайомилися з інноваційними підходами до лікування із застосуванням транскраніальної магнітної стимуляції (rTMS) під час форуму з обміну досвідом, організованого професором Нобуюкі Сасакі в Університетській лікарні медичного університету Святої Маріанни.
Програму було завершено візитом ввічливості до пані Куніміцу Аяно, державного Міністра закордонних справ Японії.
«Ми прагнемо вивчати найсучасніші підходи до лікування в Японії та водночас ділитися досвідом, накопиченим в Україні. Ми переконані, що цей обмін закладає підґрунтя для майбутніх спільних клінічних досліджень на благо обох наших країн», — зазначив професор Олег Чабан.
Досвід України з трансформації системи психічного здоров’я в умовах триваючої війни є цінним для міжнародної спільноти фахівців у сфері психічного здоров’я та створює унікальні можливості для взаємного навчання й співпраці між Україною та Японією.

From July 23 to 30, a delegation of psychiatrists from Bogomolets National Medical University and Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University visited Japan under a JICA invitation program.
During the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, they presented posters and joined the session “Sharing Knowledge on Trauma in Contexts of War and Disaster: A Dialogue Between Ukraine and Japan,” highlighting advances in PTSD treatment and the transformation of Ukraine’s mental health care system since 2022.
The delegation also exchanged expertise with specialists from the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP) and participated in a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) seminar led by Professor Nishi Daisuke at the University of Tokyo. They further explored innovative treatment approaches using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) at an Exchange forum hosted by Professor Sasaki Nobuyuki at St. Marianna University School of Medicine Hospital.
The visit concluded with a courtesy call on Ms. Kunimitsu Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.
“We are eager to learn the latest treatment approaches from Japan while also contributing knowledge from Ukraine. We believe this exchange lays the foundation for future joint clinical research for the benefit of both our countries,” said Professor Oleh Chaban.
Ukraine’s experience in transforming its mental health care system amid the ongoing war offers valuable lessons for the international mental health community and a unique opportunity for mutual learning between Ukraine and Japan.

Supporting the Growth of Moldovan SMEs through Kaizen

As part of JICA's ongoing cooperation with the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) to promote Kaizen among small and medium-sized enterprises in Moldova, SME Advisor Mr. Katsuya Kasai recently visited the Business Incubators in Sîngerei, Călărași and Nisporeni.
These visits marked another important step in strengthening the capacity of the Business Incubator network to become local promoters of Kaizen. Over the past years, Business Incubator representatives have participated in Kaizen training programs, study visits and practical learning opportunities, building the knowledge and skills needed to support entrepreneurs in their regions. During the visits, JICA also donated additional promotional and study materials to facilitate the further dissemination of Kaizen principles among Business Incubator beneficiaries and other local SMEs.
The mission also included visits to several enterprises operating in the fields of bakery and pastry production, automotive services, stone fruit cultivation and winemaking. These visits provided an opportunity to better understand the current challenges faced by local businesses and to identify potential partner companies for the implementation of Kaizen pilot projects.
We were encouraged by the openness and genuine interest shown by the entrepreneurs in adopting continuous improvement practices and working together with the JICA Expert.
Starting this September, selected SMEs will begin implementing Kaizen pilot activities tailored to their individual needs. Through on-site coaching, staff training and the provision of small-scale improvement equipment, these pilot projects will support companies in applying Kaizen principles in their daily operations and strengthening their competitiveness.
JICA remains committed to supporting Moldova's SME sector by promoting a culture of continuous improvement, practical problem-solving and sustainable business development through close cooperation with ODA, Business Incubators and local entrepreneurs.
