Today, marks its official city holiday - Kyiv Day - celebrated each year on the last Sunday of May.

For more than 1,500 years, the city has stood on the hills above the Dnipro River. Despite Russia’s ongoing attacks, Kyiv endures with hope and an unbreakable spirit.

On Kyiv Day, we celebrate one of Europe’s great capitals. stands proudly with Ukraine and the people of Kyiv.

War does not only destroy homes — it erodes parents’ ability to feel stable enough to care for their children.

The resilience of children begins with the stability of the adults who care for them. In wartime, supporting families means far more than providing temporary relief — it means creating conditions where parents can regain confidence, rebuild routines, and continue caring for their children despite constant stress and uncertainty.

This is the foundation of Save Ukraine's “Confident Start” program, strengthened through the support of the Australian Embassy in Ukraine and the Direct Aid Program (DAP) within the project “Equipment for the ‘Confident Start’ program and the Winterization project.”

Thanks to this partnership, Save Ukraine created ten functional spaces designed to provide practical, community-based support for families. Parents now have access to educational coworking areas equipped with laptops and learning resources, while fully furnished kitchens host cooking workshops that help families strengthen everyday skills and reconnect with one another. Children can safely spend time in development-focused play areas or rest in dedicated sleeping rooms while their parents participate in training sessions or receive psychological support.

The project also helped respond to the everyday realities many vulnerable families face. Laundry and hygiene areas, family care rooms for babies, and spaces for psychological counseling have become part of a support system focused not only on crisis response, but on long-term family resilience.

At the same time, winterization equipment — including hybrid inverters, battery systems, and water storage solutions — strengthened the center’s ability to continue operating during blackouts and infrastructure disruptions.

This support is not simply about equipment. It is an investment in the capacity of Ukrainian families to remain strong for their children, even in the midst of war.

The Australian Government and the Australian Embassy in Ukraine remain dedicated to trust, solidarity, and partnership in helping families build safer and more stable futures for their children.

On 28 May 2026, ’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Geoff Bowan, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mihai Popșoi. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss our respective foreign policy and regional security priorities.

Seven Ukrainian mental health leaders were in Australia this month as part of an Australia Awards Fellowship hosted by STARTTS, which included a visit with DFAT staff.
The Fellowship is building these leaders’ skills, partnerships and trauma-informed care to support Ukraine’s recovery and resilience.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the mental health system in Australia. It’s a unique chance to gain experience from Australian professionals, which will be highly beneficial for Ukraine as it continues to develop mental health services. The program is very well balanced, combining both practical work and management perspectives, helping us understand how teams are organized and operate effectively” - Olena-Kvitoslava Yatskiv, Fellow.

Цього місяця семеро українських лідерів у сфері психічного здоров'я відвідали Австралію в рамках програми Australia Awards Fellowship, організованої STARTTS, яка включала візит до співробітників Міністерства закордонних справ та торгівлі Австралії (DFAT).

Програма стипендій спрямована на розвиток навичок цих лідерів, партнерських відносин та допомоги, що враховує травми, для підтримки відновлення та стійкості України.

On 25 May 2026, Australia’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Moldova Geoff Bowan presented a copy of his credentials to Mr. Eugen Buga, the Director of the State Diplomatic Protocol Directorate, MFA of the Republic of Moldova. Ambassador-designate also made a courtesy call on Mr Igor Bodiu, the Director of the Directorate for Bilateral Cooperation, MFA of the Republic of Moldova.

Early Sunday morning, Russia launched one of its largest ever attacks on Ukraine's capital since the invasion began. At least four deaths, 87 injured and around 300 residential and commercial buildings, schools, and cultural landmarks across Kyiv damaged or destroyed. Standing alongside fellow diplomats amid the ruins, ’s Chargé d'affaires Katie McBryde witnessed firsthand the devastating human cost of Russia’s latest strikes.

Our thoughts are with all the victims, their families and all those who spent the night in fear. Australia remains unwavering in its support for Ukraine.

Щонайменше чотири людини загинули, 87 поранено, близько 300 житлових і комерційних будівель, шкіл і культурних пам'яток по всьому Києву пошкоджено або зруйновано.
