ARUA CITY STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Arua City Council has commenced a two-day capacity-building training for LC I & II leaders and refugee community leaders to strengthen community-based dispute resolution and promote peaceful coexistence between refugee and host communities.

The training, taking place at Royal Crane Resort, Arua City, from 1–2 October 2026, is facilitated by VNG International.

The initiative is part of the Local Action Plan of Denis Asiku, SUIDAC Focal Person, developed following the Local Response to Migration and Refugees training at The Hague Academy in July 2025, under VNG International’s Rights-Based Services Project.

With 23,917 refugees hosted in Arua City, the initiative seeks to improve access to dispute resolution, prevent conflicts from escalating and strengthen peaceful coexistence.

We appreciate VNG International for funding the initiative, and FIDA Uganda and West Nile Mediation Center for supporting the implementation of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the city.
