Today 12th November, 21, National Enterprise Corporation ( NEC) and Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (UNCST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding at NEC Headquarters in Bugolobi,Kampala. The aim of the MoU is to enhance the technological skill base of Ugandans to participate in national infrastructure projects, manufacturing Industries, promote local content and consequently create globally competitive businesses to facilitate a mutually beneficial collaboration and cooperation in the discharge of their respective statutory obligations. delegation of the Zambia Defence Services
Command and Staff College at NEC
Headquarters, Bugolobi .

Gen Mugira welcomed the delegation
and hailed the long
historical cordial relationship between the
two countries and Zambia's role in
liberation struggles and fight against
apartheid in South Africa.

Gen Mugira briefed the visiting delegation about
the role of the Military and Defence
Industries in socio-economic
development of a country using Uganda
People's Defence Forces/National
Enterprise Corporation as a case study.

On his part, the leader of the delegation,Col Mutale informed Gen Mugira that
they were in Uganda to benchmark on
Geo-political aspects, diplomacy,
fight against insecurity, terrorism etc given the big role
Uganda has played in the Great Lakes Region and Somalia.

DEFENCE MINISTER VISITS NEC FARM-KATONGA.

Yesterday 15th September,2021, Hon Bamulangaki Ssempijja; the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs accompanied by Hon Huda Abason Oleru-State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Veterans)visited NEC Farm-Katonga in Gomba District. NEC Farm-Katonga is one of the subsidiaries of National Enterprise Corporation. He was received by the General Manager; Col Wycliffe Keita.

The core of activities of NEC Farm-Katonga are production of high quality beef cattle for breeding for the local farmers as well as for beef export in order to enhance the company profitability.
Hon Bamulangaki Ssempijja and his delegation were taken on a guided tour by the General Manager through the farm and Egypt Uganda Joint Model Farm Poject.

The Joint Model Farm Project is used among other things for the production of commercial agricultural crops, animal production, research activities and training of farmers and specialists on best agricultural practices.

Hon Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja was impressed by the progress of the Project and thanked NEC Farm-Katonga leadership for their selfless efforts in implementing the Project.

On his part, Col Wycliffe Keita, thanked the Honourable Minister and his delegation for finding time to come and visit the Farm.

He thanked the Egyptian Government for their historical cooperation with the Government of Uganda in security and economic development.

He informed the Minister that NEC Farm-Katonga's Vision is to become a centre for breeding and production of High quality beef cattle in Uganda and the region.

HON GEN JAMES MUGIRA HOSTS MINISTER OF DEFENCE AND VETERAN AFFAIRS AT LUWERO INDUSTRIES HEADQUARTERS

Yesterday 31st August 2021, Gen James Mugira; the Managing Director-National Enterprise Corporation hosted Hon Bamulangaki Ssempijja; the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs at Luwero Industries Headquarters. The Minister was accompanied by Hon Jacob Marksons Oboth- State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs (General duties) and Hon Huda Abason Oleru-State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Veterans),Hon Lt Gen Peter Elwelu-Deputy CDF, Maj Gen Charles Okidi-Chief of Staff-UPDAF representing JCOS, Mr. James Mutabazi-Underscretary UPDAF representing Permanent Secretary.

Luwero Industries is one of the subsidiaries of National Enterprise Corporation; a commercial /business arm of Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF.

Hon Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja said he was honoured to visit Defence Industries and see what was taking place and was particularly grateful to Gen Mugira for the wonderful work he was doing not only for Luwero Industries but also for NEC.

He thanked H. E the President Gen Yoweri K. Museveni for the vision of establishing the Defence Industries that continue to contribute to national development.

He thanked Kyoga Dynamics leadership for great partnership with Luwero Industries and asked them for their continued support.

He said he was energised with what was happening at Luwero Industries and pledged Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs support to NEC.

On his part, Gen James Mugira welcomed Hon Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja to Luwero Industries and thanked him for for finding time to come see its operations and was received by Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi-General Manager-Luwero Industries Ltd.
He presented a paper to the Ministry of Defence Leadership on the activities and operations of the various NEC Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures/Partnerships.

DR MOHAMED ARAFA ALI HASSAN BIDS FAREWELL TO HON GEN JAMES MUGIRA.

Today 30th June, 2021, Dr. Mohamed Arafa Ali Hassan bade farewell to Lt Gen James Mugira-Managing Director; National Enterprise Corporation at NEC Headquarters in Bugolobi.

Gen Mugira also received and welcomed Dr. Hesham Elafify who replaced Dr. Mohamed Arafa Ali Hassan as Manager Crop Husbandry at the Egypt- Uganda Joint Model Farm under NEC Farm-Katonga Ltd located in Kisozi-Gomba District.

Hon Gen James Mugira thanked Dr. Mohamed Arafa Ali Hassan and his colleagues for their tireless efforts in establishing the Model Farm and thanked the leadership of both countries for the good working relationship.

The Egypt-Uganda Joint Model Farm Project came into existence pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the Republic of Uganda in different fields of Agriculture on 8th May 2018 in Cairo, Egypt to enhance research activities aimed at improving Agricultural and Livestock production through the use of high yielding variety seeds and high quality animal breeds applying Egyptian advanced technology.

CDF HON GEN DAVID MUHOOZI COMMISSIONS 505 AND 403 BRIGADE HEADQUARTERS RESPECTIVELY.

Yesterday 18th June, 2021 Chief of Defence Forces and Minister of State for Internal Affairs Hon Gen David Muhoozi commissioned 505 Brigade Headquarters Infrastructure Development Works in Pajimo-Kitgum District and 403 Brigade Headquarters in Matany -Napak District respectively.

Hon Gen David Muhoozi was accompanied by the Commander Land Forces-Hon Lt Gen Peter Elwelu and was received by Hon Lt Gen James Mugira-Managing Director-National Enterprise Corporation at both sites.

National Enterprise Corporation is the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF and the Implementing Agency of the UPDF infrastructure development works.

Hon Gen David Muhoozi noted that the construction of the new Brigade Headquarters was informed by the working environment and pledged prioritization of the resources available and the urge by the Commander Land Forces for officers to have permanent homes.

He thanked National Enterprise Corporation and UPDF Engineers Brigade for the commendable work and for bringing on table their organisational and management skills.

He thanked the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF and specifically the Commander Land Forces for rationalising resources for better effect.

He urged the Division Commanders to immediately occupy the structures and continue to maintain their integrity.

On his part, the Commander Land Forces, Hon Lt Gen Peter Elwelu congratulated the CDF upon his new appointment as the Minister of State for Internal Affairs.

He thanked Hon Lt Gen James Mugira and NEC/Engineers Brigade for the timely completion of the projects which had not happened before when UPDF was using private contractors.

He pledged to look up to NEC for other projects

He called on Division Commanders to get administrative units and combatants to occupy the structures otherwise they would be spoilt.

He thanked Kitgum District leadership for supporting UPDF during war times and urged them now that since there is peace, they should engage in socio-economic activities to increase their household income

On behalf of NEC, Hon Lt Gen James Mugira congratulated the CDF upon his appointment as the Minister of State for Internal Affairs and added that much as they still needed him as CDF but still rejoice with him since authority comes from God. He was confident that where he has gone he will be serving his country and wished him well in his new assignment.

He thanked the CDF for finding time out of his busy schedule to come and grace the commissioning of the projects that have been pending for sometime.

He thanked the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF for giving NEC an opportunity to participate in building UPDF infrastructure works utilizing personnel from UPDF Engineers Brigade

Through that, NEC has been able to execute a number of projects in a period of one year despite the corona challenges: hardware stores closed, restrictions in transportation and movement of personnel.

He thanked the CDF for providing officers under his command with conducive working environment and for the first time in the history of UPDF, to put up five Brigade Headquarters and other two infrastructure development works in Ruhengyere and Karama in a period of one year.

He thanked Engineers Brigade and the Division Commanders for putting their personnel at NEC's disposal.

Present at the function were: Brig Besigye Bekunda-Engineers Brigade Commander, Brig Bainomugisha-5th Div Commander, Eng Brian Buhanda- General Manager-NEC Construction, Works and Engineering Ltd, RDC, C/M-LCV, CAO Kitgum District among others.

NATIONAL E-WASTE MANAGEMENT CENTRE LAUNCHED
Today, 10th June,2021, the National Steering Committee on E-Waste Management in Uganda comprising of the various stakeholders in the e-waste management value chain; NEMA, UCC, MoFED, NITA -U,UNBS, UIA,URA,KCCA and NEC launched a National Waste Management Centre on plot 66, 6th Street Industrial Area.

The function was opened by the Deputy Managing Director-National Enterprise Corporation-the commercial arm of Ministry of Defenceand Veteran Affairs/UPDF; Hon Maj Gen Innocent Oula.

The National E-Waste Management Centre shall be the main and pivotal E-waste management facility in the country managed by NEC with oversight, regulation and coordination by NEMA. Initially, the facility shall collect, sort,dismantle and dispose e-waste and shall progress towards a refurbishment and recycling facility. It is expected that regional collection centres shall be established to supplement the National Waste Manage centre.

The advantage with this set up is that it will ride on the expertise of already existing waste treatment and disposal facilities located in Nakasongola managed by the same facility, which also has high regard to security for the waste received.

Present at the function were: Dr. Tom O. Okurut-Executive Director-NEMA, Eng Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo-Ag Executive Director-UCC, Mr. Ebiru David-Executive Director-UNBS, representatives from URA, NITA-U, and senior management officers from different stakeholder organizations.
