Our Story
Out and Proud Uganda (O.A.P.U) started out in May 2015, as a small group of LGBTQ friends in Entebbe Uganda who were actively engaged in LGBTQ activists communities in Uganda. Regular and casual conversations eventually turned into meetings about what else the group could do to concretely advance LGBT rights and on April/28th/2016, the organization was registered as a limited company by guarantee.
The grassroots organization was formed with the aim of addressing the HIV and health care needs of LGBTQ youths (18 – 25) years, specifically low income and Aging LGBTQ people in Entebbe, Wakiso and Kampala. O.A.P Uganda promotes LGBTQ health activism at local and national levels, advocates for the complete LGBT inclusion in mainstream health initiatives, educates policy makers, the press and the general public about LGBTQ people’s health and mentors the next generation of LGBTQ health advocates, policy makers and providers. We also advocate for freedom of all people: Transgender, Q***r, Le***an, Gay, Straight, Homosexuals, Bisexual and You.
