NWSC is a utility parastatal 100% owned by The Government of Uganda. It was established in 1972 under decree No: 34. The mandate of the Corporation as defined in the National Water & Sewerage Corporation Statute of 1995, Section 5 (1), is to operate and provide water and sewerage services in areas entrusted to it, on a sound, commercial and viable basis. The NWSC operations were initially in three

towns of Kampala, Jinja, and Entebbe. In 1988, four additional towns of Mbale, Tororo, Masaka, and Mbarara were handed over to NWSC by the then Water Development Department, WDD, now known as the Directorate of Water Development (DWD). This was after completion of the IDA financed rehabilitation program. In November 1995, the Corporation was re-established under the NWSC Statute. In 1997, the towns of Kasese and Fort Portal were handed over to NWSC following a successful rehabilitation financed by the German government. In April 1999, the town of Kabale was handed over to the NWSC as a prerequisite to the rehabilitation and expansion work which was due to be carried out with funding from the German government. The total number of towns currently served by the NWSC are 125; Kampala, Jinja/Njeru, Entebbe, Tororo, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Gulu, Lira, Fort Portal, Kasese, Kabale, Soroti, Bushenyi/Ishaka, Arua, Mubende, Masindi, Hoima, Lugazi, Iganga, Malaba and Mukono. Water Supply Interruptions in Bugolobi Service Area.

Dear Customer,

We sincerely apologise that water supply to parts of Bugolobi, Lugogo By-pass, Baskerville Road, parts of Mackenzie Vale and the surrounding areas has been interrupted.

This follows damage to a high-level water main caused by ongoing construction works opposite the Isuzu Service Centre along Old Portbell Road.

Our teams are already on site assessing the situation and carrying out the necessary repairs.

What we are doing to support you.
We have extended the Katosi system to reinforce the 6-inch line in Bugolobi, helping maintain supply to Kiswa Health Centre and parts of Mbuya.

We have also extended the Naguru sub-system to support the Lugogo By-pass service area.

Dewatering is currently underway so that repairs to the damaged pipe section can proceed safely.

Expected restoration time: within 8 hours.

Please use any water you have available as carefully as possible, prioritising essential needs.

We truly appreciate your patience as we work to restore normal supply.

Dear Customer,

We know how important reliable water is to your daily life, and we sincerely apologise that you are currently experiencing an interruption in supply.

This is due to an emergency failure at our Masese Water Treatment Plant. Our technical team is already on site and working as quickly as possible to restore normal service.

Areas currently affected:
Jinja City centre, Njeru, Bugembe, Magamaga, Namulesa, Budondo, Iganga and Mayuge.

What you can do in the meantime
Please use any water you have as carefully as possible. We recommend prioritising essential needs such as drinking, cooking and hygiene.

We understand this is inconvenient and we are doing everything we can to get water flowing again soon.

Important Notice: Temporary Water Supply Interruption in Tororo Area

Dear Valued Customers,

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.
We are currently carrying out essential replacement of a DN300 steel pipe at the high-lift pump.

To complete this work safely and thoroughly, the plant has been temporarily shut down.

We expect normal water supply to be fully restored later today, Tuesday 28th July 2026.

In the meantime, we kindly request that you use the water you have as sparingly as possible.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION NOTICE.

Monday 27th July, 2026

Dear Valued Customers,

Please be advised of a planned water supply interruption due to scheduled power outages as follows:

Period: 16 July – 29 July 2026
Daily Duration: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

The power outages are being carried out by the UEDCL to allow maintenance works along the Kampala North – Mutundwe transmission line.

These works form part of the ongoing Kampala Metropolitan Transmission Systems Improvement Project, aimed at improving power supply reliability in greater Kampala and surrounding areas.

As a result, water supply from our installations in the following areas will be affected: Kawempe, Makerere, Namungoona, Kyebando, Nabweru, Kawanda, Kagoma, Lugoba and surrounding areas.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and kindly request your understanding and patience during this period.

We will continue to monitor the situation and share further updates as necessary.

We regret to inform you that water supply has been interrupted across the following areas due to damaged electrical wires caused by a fallen tree: Entire Rakai, Rakai Town Council, Lumbugu Town and its surrounding areas.

Our technical teams are currently on site assessing the extent of the damage and working to restore power to the affected water systems as quickly as possible.
