Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa welcomes back the Rural Electrification Programme back to its mother ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

She indicated this during her meeting with Uganda Manufacturers Association today.

She also indicated that the three companies of UEGCL, UETCL and UEDCL will be merged into one.

At the inter-ministerial field inspection for disaster effect assessment in Kasese
Hon. Peter Lokeris inspected Nyamwamba. He visited Kilembe SS, Kilembe Hospital and the mines.

Hon. Musa Ecweru has advised the Ministry of Finance,planning and Economic Development to hand over the management of Kilembe mines to the mandated Ministry, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to enable redevelopment of the Mine.

On Mobuku 1- Kilembe hydropower Hon.Lokeris emphasized the need to rehabilitate the intake of the dam to facilitate production of power to be fed into the National grid.

On Kilembe hospital it was agreed that the tripartite agreement between Government of Uganda, Catholic Church and Kilembe mines be revisited to enable reconstruction of the hospital

REA has connected Kotido, Kaabong, Kidepo, Moroto town, Moroto Cement Factory, Rupa, Nakapiripiriti, Amudat & Katikekire to the newly constructed Moroto 132/33kV Transmission substation. This will greatly improve the reliability of power supply in Karamoja region.
