Yesterday, we officially launched and handed over the changing room at Kavumba Primary School, marking a meaningful step toward advancing menstrual dignity and supporting girls to stay in school with confidence.

The facility now provides a safe, private and supportive space where girls can access sanitary pads and receive assistance whenever their periods come unexpectedly. This ensures that learning is not interrupted by natural biological processes and that every girl is able to remain in class throughout the school day without fear, shame or embarrassment. It is a practical solution that directly addresses one of the key barriers to education for adolescent girls.

The school administration, teachers, pupils and PTA representatives expressed their heartfelt appreciation and excitement during the handover. They recognized the importance of this intervention and the positive change it will bring to the school environment and learning outcomes.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mundo Cooperante for making this possible through their support and commitment to girls’ rights and education. Their partnership has helped turn this vision into reality, ensuring that dignity and care are embedded within the learning environment.

Beyond infrastructure, this changing room represents dignity, reassurance and opportunity. Together, we are breaking barriers to education and creating a future where every girl can thrive.

Through her work, platforms and mentorship, she has championed girls’ rights, supported their education and consistently worked to ensure that they stay in school and pursue their dreams with confidence and dignity.

She has poured into many lives, including ours with wisdom, encouragement and a genuine belief in people’s potential.
Her leadership is rooted in kindness, compassion and a deep sense of responsibility toward the communities she serves.

In honor of , we joined our partner under the for the post-International Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations at Kira Secondary School.
The day was filled with meaningful engagement as we facilitated sessions on menstrual health and hygiene with young people.

Having both boys and girls in the same space made the conversations even more powerful. It was encouraging to see how openly they participated, asked questions and sought clarity on issues that are often surrounded by silence and stigma.

Their curiosity reminded us that young people are ready for accurate information when given the opportunity. They are not just learners but also key voices in shaping healthier, more informed communities.

As part of our contribution towards menstrual dignity, we also donated sanitary pads to support the girls in managing their periods safely and confidently. This small but important gesture reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that no girl misses out on opportunities because of her period.

We are grateful to all the partners who joined us and contributed to the success of the day. Together, we remain committed to breaking stigma, promoting dignity and creating a for all.

Yesterday, we successfully concluded a 3day residential grantee training under and it was a meaningful and enriching experience for us.

Over the three days, we had the opportunity to learn, connect, reflect and share experiences with fellow grantees who are all committed to creating safer and better futures for girls.
The training created a space for honest conversations, collaboration and practical learning that will continue strengthening our work in communities.

We engaged in powerful sessions on governance, compliance, safeguarding, financial management, internal controls, strategic planning, human resource management, social enterprise development and resource mobilization. Each session equipped us with practical skills and knowledge that will help us build stronger systems, improve accountability and increase the impact of our work.

One of the most inspiring parts of the convening was hearing success stories from different organizations and witnessing leaders graduate from the Leadership Challenge Cohort. It was a reminder that leadership grows through learning, resilience and collective action.

We are grateful to Girls First Fund for intentionally investing in grassroots organizations and leaders working tirelessly to , keep girls in school and create opportunities for adolescent girls to thrive.

To all facilitators, partners, fellow grantees and organizers, thank you for making the experience impactful and memorable. We left better equipped, inspired and more committed to creating lasting change in our communities.uganda .ug

Participating in yesterday’s was more than just showing up, it was a reflection of what we deeply believe in; that every girl deserves the chance to stay in school and pursue her dreams without limitations.

As we ran alongside different individuals and organizations, we were reminded that collective action has the power to change lives.
For us, this run symbolized hope, commitment and standing in solidarity with girls facing barriers like poverty, menstrual stigma, teenage pregnancy and child marriage.

Every step taken yesterday represented our continued commitment to advocate for education, dignity and opportunities for girls because when you keep a girl in school, you empower an entire generation.

Our team leader shares insights from our previous donor visit and honestly, it was one of those moments that reminded us why the work we do matters.
Together we visited the community we have worked with for six years in Namayumba Sub-county and what stood out most was not just the progress, but the people behind it.

We sat in homes, listened to girls share their journeys of staying in school, heard parents speak about choosing to and saw how local leaders take pride in protecting their communities.
This work has never been just numbers, it is school fees that kept a girl in class, sanitary products that restored dignity and everyday support that helped girls keep going when dropping out felt closer.

As we moved from home to home, we were welcomed with so much warmth and generosity. It was a powerful reminder that even where resources are limited, kindness and willingness to give are abundant.
This is what real impact feels like.
