After five memorable years in Uganda, we bid farewell to Maria Löfstrand, our outgoing Program Officer for Inclusive Economic Growth and Employment.

Throughout her time at the Embassy of Sweden, Maria has worked closely with government, the private sector, development partners and local communities to advance inclusive economic growth, employment, entrepreneurship and trade.

From coffee-growing communities in the Rwenzori region to refugee-hosting areas, and from Uganda’s music, greenery and fresh fruit to the friendships she has made, Maria shares what Uganda has meant to her over the past five years.

Stockholm has a swim spot right in the middle of the city — and it’s so tiny and charming it almost feels like a secret.🤫

At Munkbrohamnens doppbrygga, you can literally hop in for a quick dip just steps from Gamla stan. It’s a little wooden deck with a safe swim basket inside (yep, a basket!) that keeps you away from the currents.

It’s removed in winter, but in summer it becomes one of those wonderfully quirky “only in Stockholm” places. 🌊✨

Have you heard these Swedish words? 3.0

It's still holiday time in Sweden! Here are 5 very useful Swedish words to know if you happen to be there this time of year. 😜 Don't miss the last slide!

🍨 Kulglass – means scooped ice cream, but 'kul' also means fun. Funny ice cream, anyone?

🦟 Mygga – a small, annoying and very common bug that goes 'eeeeeeeeeeh' before it bites you and makes you itch (in Sweden, mosquitoes are usually harmless, though).

🌇 Solnedgång – sunset, the perfect time of day to be romantic, as the sky turns orange–pink and the sun slowly sets.

🏊 Livboj – a lifesaver! If someone in the water is in trouble, look for the nearest red and white lifebuoy and throw it in.

🍓 Jordgubbar – these 'men of the earth' are actually delicious. Say what?? Yes, 'jordgubbar' means strawberries!

Strong partnerships 🤝 are essential to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and promoting gender equality.

Sweden's long-standing partnership with UNFPA , the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, helps to expand access to sexual and reproductive health services, including maternal health and family planning services, to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and to deliver assistance in humanitarian crises.

In 2025, Sweden was the fourth largest bilateral donor to UNFPA. Together, we are contributing to stronger health systems and supporting rights, choices and well-being of women, girls and young people in more than 150 countries.

When many people think of Sweden, they picture those iconic red‑and‑white wooden cottages nestled by lakes and forests.

But no one expects to find one… on the moon.

🚀🌕 Yet in January 2025, a tiny Swedish cottage actually travelled there.

Swedish artist Mikael Genberg sent his miniature Moonhouse — just 11 cm wide and 8 cm tall — aboard the Resilience lunar lander launched from Kennedy Space Center. After landing, the micro‑rover Tenacious carefully placed the little red stuga on the lunar surface, turning Genberg’s 25‑year dream into reality.

The mission was run by Japanese space company ispace, whose rover carried not only the Moonhouse but also technology for future lunar exploration. Among ispace’s objectives is to collect samples from the moon’s surface — using a digger developed by Swedish company Epiroc, mounted directly on the rover.

A classic Swedish 🇸🇪 cottage on grey moon dust, supported by Swedish engineering and Japanese 🇯🇵 space innovation.

A small piece of Sweden… now part of lunar history. 💛💙🌕

These 5 very useful Swedish words are missing in other languages, or at least English – says we! 😄

🍬 Lördagsgodis – 'Saturday sweets', because Swedes try to teach children to only eat sweets on Saturdays.

🌚 Mångata – a streak of moonlight on land or water.

💪 Orka – to cope, or to have enough strength or endurance to accomplish something.

🕘🤯 Tidsoptimist – someone who's overly optimistic about time estimates, often resulting in lateness.

💧🍽 Diska – to wash the dishes.

This is the Meänflaku, raised in many corners of Sweden today, on Tornedalians' Day.💛🤍💙

Tornedalians are one of Sweden's five official national minorities. They have lived in the area around Torne Valley for centuries and speak Meänkieli, a language related to Finnish, Estonian and the Sami language, among others.

The name of the flag, regardless of language, is Meänflaku. The blue💙 represents the summer sky, yellow💛 the sun and white🤍 is for the winter-white wilderness.

In 2000, Meänkieli was recognised as one of Sweden’s official minority languages.💬 The language is primarily spoken in the municipalities of Gällivare, Haparanda, Pajala, Kiruna, and Övertorneå.

🎂✨ Happy Birthday, Crown Princess Victoria!

Today we celebrate Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Duchess of Västergötland, born on 14 July 1977 and heir to the Swedish throne.

Every year, the Crown Princess marks her birthday on the beautiful island of Öland, where several days of festivities — the beloved Victoria Days — bring together music, culture, and community in her honour.

💡 Did you know?
Crown Princess Victoria has undergone special officer training in the Swedish Armed Forces. This training strengthens her understanding of defence and security as she prepares for her future role as head of state. When she eventually succeeds King Carl XVI Gustaf, she will become Sweden’s fourth female monarch — and the first since 1720.
