According to Mr Peter kimbowa ,Strategy and Governance Adviser, leadership is shaped long before decisions are made. It is formed by experience, belief systems, and personal history.

Leaders who understand this reality develop greater clarity, empathy, and integrity. Principle centered leadership strengthens institutions, improves relationships, and drives sustainable results.

CEO Summit Uganda is proud to amplify insights that develop leaders of character and purpose.

What does “economic growth” really mean when people are still struggling to find work?

During the CEO Apprenticeship Programme delivered by CEO Summit Uganda, Prof. André Roux led a powerful and thought-provoking session at Stellenbosch University that challenged future-ready CEOs to rethink what progress truly looks like.

Leaders explored what is really happening beneath the headlines, from rising unemployment and growing public debt to declining productivity and widening skills gaps, while also examining how global uncertainty and economic shifts increasingly influence everyday leadership decisions.

The question that stayed with many participants was simple but confronting:

Are you leading for yesterday’s economy or preparing for tomorrow’s one?

This session went beyond economics.
It was leadership development in action by CEO Summit Uganda.

Leadership does not change in the classroom alone.
It changes when leaders see differently.

As part of the 2025 CEO Apprenticeship Programme that began in January, our cohort of future-ready CEOs completed their final international module at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

This closing module brought together futures thinking, innovation, sustainability and executive reflection, and culminated in the graduation of the cohort.

Over the coming days, we share highlights from the sessions, facilitators and immersion experiences that shaped this journey.

A new standard of board leadership is emerging. AI enhances the depth and speed of strategic analysis, helping leaders see risks and opportunities earlier. Human leadership provides judgment, experience, and values. When combined, the result is clearer direction, stronger decisions, and more resilient governance. The strongest boards of tomorrow will be those that embrace this evolution today.

As we continue sharing key moments from the 16th Annual CEO Forum 2025, the Guest Speaker Session stood out for its clarity on Uganda’s future in the AI era.

Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, representing the Prime Minister, highlighted the need for Uganda to accelerate AI adoption in order to remain globally competitive. The Prime Minister’s message acknowledged the Forum’s sixteen years of impact and its collaborations with global institutions including IIT, Strathmore University, University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Lagos Business School, AABS and Makerere University.

He shared ongoing government work including the national AI policy and the introduction of AI into agriculture, traffic management, predictive analytics, governance, education, financial systems and public services.

This session also featured the launch of five CEO Cluster Teams to move Uganda’s AI agenda forward and the official unveiling of the National AI Academy as a center for AI learning, research and commercialization.

The message remained clear: Uganda’s digital transformation must be a joint effort between government, academia, private sector and civil society.

Building on the earlier discussions on governance and policy, the CEO Forum Uganda 2025 moved into a session on how companies are already using AI to enhance operational efficiency.

Byarugaba Richard Patrick broke AI adoption down into three focus areas: automating repetitive tasks, understanding what drives business outcomes, and optimizing for scale. He shared examples from NSSF’s midterm access processing, where AI simplified data integration and online verification, and from ongoing staffing insights based on customer behavior.

He also highlighted how local businesses like CJS use AI to predict customer orders and improve service delivery.
The session introduced the AI Academy, which will guide organizations in adopting practical AI tools and building internal capability.
