TUGATA-The Uganda Association of Travel Agents The Uganda Association of Travel Agents (TUGATA) is Uganda’s leading association of travel Professionals.

The Uganda Association of Travel Agents (TUGATA) was registered in May 1999 with 5 founder members. Today we are over 100 registered members of the Association, which is a reflection of how mature the Travel Industry has grown. The Association further established a Secretariat in 2006 to better coordinate its activities. Today, TUGATA has a fully-fledged Secretariat manned by permanent staff. TUGA

TA’s membership incorporates both IATA and non-IATA members, who have full voting rights and equally participate on all functions of the association, without discrimination. TUGATA is a member of International professional bodies:United Federation of Travel Agents Association (UFTAA), Federation of Eastern and Southern African Travel Agents Associatio (FESATA), APJC (Agency Programme Joint Council), and work very closely with our affiliates in Tanzania (TASOTA) and Kenya (KATA). The TUGATA members contribute to the general growth of the Uganda economy by employing approx 800 persons.

UGANDA AIRLINES ANNOUNCES NEW KIGALI AND ACCRA ROUTES

5th August 2026 | Kampala, Uganda

Uganda Airlines has announced two new international routes to Kigali, Rwanda and Accra, Ghana marking a significant milestone in expanding Uganda’s air connectivity and strengthening its position as a regional aviation hub.

The Kigali route will commence on 18th November 2026 with daily flights while the Accra route will start on 27th October 2026 with four flights weekly.

Speaking at the launch held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Uganda Airlines CEO Mr. Girma Wake highlighted the importance of the new routes in promoting passenger mobility, trade, tourism and economic connectivity across Africa.

The Chief Guest and Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama commended Uganda Airlines for expanding its network and noted that the new routes will support trade, commerce and regional integration under Uganda’s NDP IV 10-fold growth strategy.
He also announced plans for Uganda to acquire eight additional aircraft to further strengthen the airline’s network and capacity.

Representing Uganda’s travel agents, TUGATA-The Uganda Association of Travel Agents Chairperson Ms. Irene Nanyombi welcomed the development and congratulated Uganda Airlines noting that the new routes will enhance regional and continental connectivity, provide more routing options and improve the competitiveness of travel agents.

She further emphasised that improved direct connectivity will be instrumental in promoting intra-Africa travel.

TUGATA congratulates Uganda Airlines on this milestone and looks forward to working with the airline and industry stakeholders to maximise the opportunities presented by the expanded network.

*TUGATA Board Holds Courtesy Meeting with Old Mutual Insurance to Strengthen Partnership*

We paid a courtesy visit to our Corporate Member Old Mutual Insurance Uganda at their head offices to discuss areas of collaboration and explore opportunities that will deliver greater value to our members.

The TUGATA delegation was led by the Vice Chairperson, Ms. Pearl Kakooza and included the Secretary, Ms. Monalisa Aman, Treasurer Mr. Simon Peter Kirugga and CEO Mr. Nicholas Kalyango.

Welcoming the TUGATA delegation, Mr. Stephen Adrapi, Country Agency Manager at Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, thanked TUGATA for welcoming Old Mutual into the Association as a Corporate Member. He reaffirmed the company's commitment to working closely with TUGATA to provide innovative insurance solutions tailored to the needs of travel agencies.

Ms. Pearl Kakooza commended Old Mutual for its continued contribution to Uganda's insurance sector and expressed appreciation for the company's decision to partner with TUGATA in supporting the growth and resilience of the travel industry.

The discussions focused on establishing a strong and mutually beneficial partnership through a range of collaborative initiatives, including:
• Regular capacity-building workshops and training sessions for TUGATA members on insurance, risk management and business continuity.
• Joint participation in TUGATA events, industry forums, and member engagement activities.
• Development of tailored insurance products and value-added solutions that address the unique needs of travel agencies.
• Creation of member reward and loyalty programes designed to enhance business growth and provide additional benefits to TUGATA members.

TUGATA welcomed Old Mutual's proposal to introduce innovative rewards and value-added initiatives for members, noting that such programes will contribute to improving the competitiveness and sustainability of member businesses.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both organizations to building a strategic partnership that supports business growth, strengthens industry resilience, and delivers meaningful benefits to TUGATA members.

*The 4th AESATA Travel Agents Conference has officially commenced in Livingstone, Zambia, under the theme "Africa in Motion."*
The three-day conference has attracted over 300 delegates, bringing together travel agents, airlines, tourism boards, GDS partners, and other aviation and tourism stakeholders from AESATA member countries across Africa and beyond.
The conference is officially opened by the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Evan Muhanga, from Zambia's Ministry of Tourism. In his keynote address, he has acknowledged the pivotal role that AESATA continues to play in strengthening Africa's travel trade, expanding intra-African tourism, and fostering closer collaboration between travel agents, airlines, and destinations.
He emphasized that tourism remains a key driver of job creation, economic transformation, regional integration, and sustainable development, while highlighting the immense opportunities presented by the growing African travel market. He called for stronger partnerships across the aviation and travel value chain to unlock greater connectivity, improve market access, and position Africa as a competitive global tourism destination.
TUGATA is well represented at the conference led by our Vice Chairperson, Ms. Pearl Hoareau Kakooza, together with other members of the Association. Their participation underscores TUGATA's commitment to strengthening regional collaboration and ensuring that the interests of Uganda's travel agents are well represented on the continental stage.
Also in attendance are representatives from the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Airlines who are actively showcasing the Explore Uganda destination brand and engaging with travel trade partners to promote Uganda as a premier tourism destination within Africa and beyond.
The conference will feature high-level discussions on aviation, travel distribution, technology, partnerships, sustainability, and the future of the African travel agency profession.
