Dear fellow Gen Zs of Uganda,
As we embark on this New Year, I extend to you greetings filled with hope, courage, and a renewed sense of determination. This year marks not just a change in the calendar but a moment for introspection, accountability, and decisions that will shape the future of both ourselves and Uganda.
Today, I address you not only as your President for Gen Zs, but as a comrade in the shared struggles, aspirations, and uncertainties that many young people in our country face. The challenges confronting us, the Gen Zs of Uganda, are grave. Unemployment among the youth is on the rise, leaving many educated, skilled, and talented individuals without adequate opportunities. Degrees that were meant to open doors have become sources of frustration, with careers giving way to mere survival.
Corruption continues to erode our prospects for a better future, depriving us of jobs, hindering opportunities, and undermining public services that should be empowering the youth. When corruption prevails, meritocracy suffers, and hope diminishes.
Furthermore, disparities
in justice and representation persist, with many young people feeling marginalized, unheard, and unfairly treated by the legal system. A nation cannot progress if its youth are excluded from decision-making processes and denied equitable justice. Therefore, on behalf of the Gen Zs of Uganda, I make a respectful Request: We urge our government and community leaders to listen to the voices and concerns of young people, to embrace our ideas and innovations, and to address our grievances with empathy and action.
We demand:
- Meaningful employment opportunities and skill development
- Vigorous anti-corruption measures
- Fair and impartial justice
- Genuine youth representation in governance
These are not privileges but fundamental rights. As we hold our leaders accountable, we must also uphold our responsibilities as citizens. We must respect the institutions tasked with safeguarding our nation and its people. Dialogue, adherence to the law, and mutual respect should guide our interactions.
To my fellow Gen Zs, the future we desire will not be handed to us; we must actively shape it. On January 15th, I urge every young Ugandan to exercise their civic duty peacefully, lawfully, and responsibly by participating in the electoral process. Vote for leaders of integrity, vision, and empathy who understand the challenges faced by the youth.
Your vote is your voice. Your engagement is your strength.
As we embark on this New Year, let us choose optimism over apprehension, unity over discord, and action over complacency. I wish every Gen Z in Uganda a year filled with prosperity, peace, and opportunities for growth. Let us remember that we are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today. Happy New Year, and may God bless you and Uganda. and may also God protect our security men and women.
