Every investment in preparedness can help save lives. On 12 June 2026, the UN in Uganda through , with support from the United States Government, handed over specialized equipment worth USD 199,000 (UGX 755 million) to the Government of Uganda to strengthen the country's Ebola response.

The equipment, including advanced thermal scanners, a multipurpose tent and automated hand sanitizer dispensers will support screening, surveillance and infection prevention efforts at Entebbe International Airport and other high-risk locations.

These investments are critical to strengthening early detection and response capacities, particularly given the continued risk of cross-border transmission.

The handover reflects the strong partnership between the Government of Uganda, the United States, IOM and the wider UN System in supporting a coordinated national response. Together, partners are working to strengthen surveillance, support frontline health services, ensure the delivery of essential supplies and engage communities with life-saving information.

As Uganda strengthens efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak, together with humanitarian partners has launched an emergency appeal for US$15.8 million to support the national response.

The funding will help scale up lifesaving interventions, protect vulnerable communities, strengthen surveillance and response systems, and support frontline workers in stopping the spread of the disease.

Ms. Winnie Jeptum Bargoria, Head of Office, UNODC Uganda, today paid a courtesy call on the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Leonard Zulu, following her assumption of duty on 3 May 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ongoing collaboration and reaffirm commitment to strengthening UNODC’s work in Uganda.
