UEGCL Board Visits the 183 MW Isimba Hydropower Plant.

The Board of Directors (BoD) today visited the Isimba HPP as part of their familiarization tour of the Company’s generating facilities.

The BoD received comprehensive updates from the Projects, and Operations & Maintenance teams on the plant’s performance, status of ongoing project activities. They later toured the plant to gain firsthand insight into its operations before engaging with staff.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Board to appreciate the critical role of Isimba HPP in UEGCL catalogue and to interact with the teams responsible for ensuring Isimba remains safe, reliable and available for dispatch.

UEGCL Board of Directors Tour Namanve Thermal Power Plant.

The newly appointed UEGCL Board of Directors today visited the 50MW Namanve Thermal Power Plant to familiarize themselves with its operations and engage with the plant team.

The visit commenced with a comprehensive safety induction conducted by the Safety, Health, Environment, Quality (SHEQ) team, underscoring UEGCL’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards across its facilities. Following the induction, the Board toured the plant, where they gained firsthand insight into its operations, key processes, and the critical role it plays in ensuring reliable electricity supply in the country.

The visit concluded with an interaction between the Board and the Namanve Thermal Power Plant staff. During the session, staff members introduced themselves, after which the Chief Executive Officer formally introduced the members of the Board.

Addressing the staff, the Board members commended the team for their dedication and contribution to UEGCL’s mandate. The Board Chairperson , Eng. Dr. Florence Lubwama Kiyimba encouraged employees to remain committed to excellence, emphasizing that the success of UEGCL is built on the collective efforts of its people.

“Let us continue working together and giving our best. When UEGCL performs well, it reflects the commitment of every individual and strengthens the entire electricity sector,” the Board Chairperson remarked.

Today, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero addressed the public on the status of electricity supply in the country.

She emphasized that the planned power outages being experienced in parts of the country are temporary and necessary to facilitate the ongoing upgrades, rehabilitation and expansion of Uganda’s electricity network.

The works, expected to continue until 8th August 2026, will improve the reliability, safety and resilience of electricity supply.

The Minister also called on the public to help protect electricity infrastructure by reporting acts of vandalism.

This year, as UEGCL celebrates 25 years, Nalubaale Power Station celebrates 72 years since it began generating electricity for Uganda in 1954.
Formerly known as Owen Falls Dam, the station remains a landmark of infrastructure built in service of the nation.

This archival photograph captures the early commissioning of Nalubaale’s switchboard, witnessed by H.E. the Governor and Lady Hall, Hon. C. Handley and the UEB Chairman, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s energy history.
