Uganda Coffee Group Ltd (UCG) has been formed as an indigenous, private-sector-led platform to transform Uganda’s coffee industry from raw commodity exports into a globally competitive, value-driven sector. Emerging from the Uganda Coffee National Taskforce led by our Chief Coordinator, UCG will unite farmers, investors, enterprises and industry actors to strengthen Ugandan participation across the entire value chain, from production and processing to manufacturing, branding and global trade.

OWC Senior Management Committee, led by Brigadier General Godfrey Muwanguzi, Deputy Chief Coordinator of Operations, is undertaking a two-day visit to the Albertine Graben, with engagements in Hoima and Buliisa Districts to gain first-hand insight into Uganda’s oil, gas and petroleum sector. The delegation visited Hoima Stadium and received briefings on its development, safety and operational systems, as well as the strategic role of Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) in managing Uganda’s commercial interests in the petroleum sector. The visit is deepening OWC’s understanding of the petroleum value chain and the opportunities it presents for employment, investment, local economic growth and sustainable national transformation.

For Richard Oyirwoth of Padyere Constituency Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO, Emyooga has transformed his livelihood. Once dependent on small-scale farming for survival, Richard now earns a daily income from riding a motorcycle, allowing him to support his family and save towards owning his own motorcycle. His story is a reflection of how Emyooga is creating opportunities for Ugandans to move from subsistence to sustainable income-generating activities.

Gen. Salim Saleh denotes that wealth creation is not just a slogan but a vital state-building instrument. Through OWC , he has championed the transformation of Uganda’s idle resources; idle land, idle youth and idle capital into productive systems that generate sustainable value. His practical, people-centred approach focuses on moving households from subsistence to the money economy by strengthening productivity, value addition, markets and household incomes. By listening to the needs of ordinary Ugandans and promoting coordinated interventions in agriculture, enterprise development and rural transformation, Gen. Salim Saleh continues to demonstrate that lasting national development is built from the household upward, turning potential into productivity and productivity into prosperity.

Yesterday, OWC DCC Brig Gen. Godfrey Muwanguzi met Mukene fishers at Kiyindi Landing Site in a dialogue on how Government of the Republic of Uganda can support efforts to uplift the ban on Mukene fishing. Kiyindi Town Council has three gazetted landing sites; Myalojjimbi, Kiyindi and Karugogo, with more than 460 fishers. Fisheries officials noted that the ban, now in its fourth year, was imposed over the use of illegal lights, forcing many Mukene fishers to migrate to Kenya, where Mukene is currently sourced. The ban affected about 300 Mukene fishers who have since lost their livelihoods. The DCC encouraged the fishers to continue sharing knowledge and embracing alternative income-generating activities, including food production, as part of livelihood diversification while Government addresses the challenges affecting the sector.

Eyes on, hands off. Government of the Republic of Uganda continues to deliver relief food to households affected by the prolonged drought in Nabilatuk District. A UPDF Kayoola truck loaded with maize flour was offloaded on 3 August 2026 at a temporary storage facility in Nabilatuk Town Council, where the consignment was verified before distribution. The exercise is progressing smoothly, with a high level of transparency and accountability to ensure the food reaches the intended beneficiaries. We commend the Government of Uganda for its swift intervention to save lives and support communities affected by the drought.
