What a great day at the Alabama Agribusiness Council (AAC) Regional Meeting in Mobile last week! AAC brought members and guests together to explore Murder Point Oysters, enjoy lunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant, and learn more about the Port of Mobile aboard the Perdido Queen. Henry County was represented by Rhonda Harrison, HCEDA’s executive director, and David Norwood, HCEDA Chairman of the Board and Alabama Power Community Relations Manager.

🎉 Congratulations to Enrique “Suave” Morales, Henry County’s recipient of the 2026 Grow Southeast Alabama Workforce Development Scholarship!
A 2025 graduate of Headland High School, Suave is beginning his second year at Alabama Aviation College, working toward becoming an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certified aviation maintenance technician. He plans to continue his education with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. ✈️
HCEDA proudly contributes $500 to Grow Southeast Alabama’s $1,000 scholarship, bringing his total award to $1,500 to help with tuition, course fees, or exam costs.
This regional scholarship program supports students pursuing skilled trades and technical careers—helping them build bright futures while strengthening Southeast Alabama’s workforce.

Henry County showed up BIG for Wiregrass United Way! 💙

We loved welcoming the Wiregrass United Way Campaign Kickoff Bus Tour to Henry County this morning and celebrating the generosity of a community that continues to show just how big its heart is!

And we had a LOT to celebrate, Henry County has already raised $75,735, reaching 80.57% of our $94,000 goal! 🎉👏

Henry County is always coming together to support our neighbors and take care of our community, we are mighty. Time and time again, our businesses, organizations, and residents step up when it matters most, and today was another reminder of why we’re so proud to call Henry County home.

We’re only $18,265 away from our goal, and if we know Henry County, we know we’re not stopping at 80.57%.

Thank you to everyone who has already given and helped make this possible. Henry County really is the BEST county! 💙

Leadership Henry Class 3 is officially underway!🩵

Yesterday, we kicked off Class 3 with our Orientation & Opening Session, giving our newest class members a full day of learning, connecting, team building, and getting to know Henry County a little better.

We began the morning at The ATTA, where we had the privilege of hearing from Mr. Jimmy Rane from Great Southern Wood Preserving. We are incredibly grateful that he chose to share his time, wisdom, and his 80th birthday with Leadership Henry Class 3.

The class then headed to Abbeville City Park for teambuilding activities with Camp Butter and Egg. After lunch, Leadership Henry Class 2 participant Matt Wilkins shared his perspective and experience from the program.

Mrs. Kay Wilkins then led the class through the True Colors Personality Profile, helping participants learn more about their own personalities, communication styles, and how they work with others.

The afternoon continued with Kate Killebrew giving the class a tour of The Atta, followed by sessions on business etiquette and HCEDA.

It was a full first day, and we are excited to watch this group learn more about Henry County, build new relationships, strengthen their leadership skills, and discover ways they can make an impact in our community.

Get ready, Leadership Henry Class 3! We’re just getting started! 🎉

🎉 Introducing Leadership Henry Class 3! 🎉

We are excited to officially welcome: Stephanie Blankenship, Chris Coates, Jeaneva Taylor, Drew Ruble, Javen Williams, Peyton McCord, Leah McCoy, Milisa Sims, Shelby Adams, Casey Tillery, Arlissa Minniefield, and Tori Nowell as our Leadership Henry Class 3

This group brings together an incredible mix of individuals who live, work, serve, and lead throughout Henry County. Over the coming months, they’ll have the opportunity to learn more about our community, connect with local leaders, gain a deeper understanding of the industries and organizations that keep Henry County moving forward, and build relationships that will last well beyond the program.

Leadership Henry is about more than learning what makes our county great, it’s about developing informed, engaged leaders who are ready to make a difference.

We’re excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to watch Class 3 learn, grow, connect, and lead!

Great Southern Wood Preserving, producer of YellaWood pressure treated lumber and founded right here in Abbeville in 1970, is expanding its national footprint with a new $40 million lumber treatment facility in North Carolina.

From its Henry County roots to now 17 locations across 12 states, Great Southern Wood is a tremendous example of what vision, hard work, and strong leadership can build. We are proud to call this homegrown company one of our own and congratulate the entire Great Southern Wood team on another exciting milestone!

The company is investing $40 million in a lumber processing plant at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport in North Carolina and will create 43 jobs.
