Friday night lights are back! Both of Abbevilleโ€™s high school football teams kick off their regular seasons tonight.

Abbeville High School takes on the Welsh Greyhounds. Tonightโ€™s game location has changed, but the Wildcats will still be the home team. The game will now be played at 200 E. Pirates Lane in Kaplan.

Vermilion Catholic hits the road to New Iberia to take on Catholic Highโ€“New Iberia.

Both games kick off at 7:00 PM.

A reminder Vermilion Parish School System schools are cashless for athletic events this year. See the link in the comments to purchase tickets for tonightโ€™s game.

Another great addition to our Abbeville community!

Earlier this week city leaders joined the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, Abbeville General Hospital and other community partners yesterday to celebrate the official ribbon cutting at Abbeville Premier Surgical Services, located at 2620 North Drive.

Abbeville Premier Surgical Services will provide general surgical care right here in Abbeville, giving residents another option for receiving the care they need close to home.

Mayor Anita R. Levy, Mayor Pro Tem R. Brady Broussard Jr., Councilman At-Large Minh Bui and District B Councilwoman Rachel T. Mouton were among those on hand for the celebration.

We are always glad to see businesses and healthcare providers choose Abbeville as a place to invest, grow and serve our residents.

A new sign has been installed at this neighborhood park.

Located on Graceland Avenue, Gerty Huntsberry Park is the only City park located within District B. During Tuesdayโ€™s City Council meeting, Councilwoman Rachel T. Mouton shared the update and spoke about the importance of continued improvements to the park.

Sometimes even the smaller improvements can make a difference in how our public spaces look and feel.

The Abbeville City Council met yesterday for its regularly scheduled meeting. Here are a few highlights from updates and discussions shared during the meeting:

A waterways cleanup is happening tomorrow along the Vermilion River as part of the Governorโ€™s Love the Boot initiative. Keep Abbeville Beautiful, the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and the Abbeville Fire Department will be joining effort to remove litter and help clean up the Vermilion River.

Councilwoman Rachel T. Mouton shared an update on a new sign recently installed at Gerty Huntsberry Park, another improvement helping enhance and identify one of Abbevilleโ€™s neighborhood parks.

Councilman Billy Noegel provided an update on drainage concerns affecting the west end of St. Mary Street. Engineers are reviewing data from previously completed work in the area as part of an ongoing drainage study to better understand conditions and determine potential next steps.

๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐‘๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
Councilwoman Terry Broussard highlighted the City of Abbevilleโ€™s recognition at the Louisiana Municipal Association Conference in August, where the Graceland Avenue Project received Honorable Mention in the Community Development category.

๐€๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ, work at the Water Treatment Plant was discussed. The plant remains in bypass mode as contractors continue improvements, including work on portions of the facility that have not seen significant remediation in approximately 50 years.

More information will be shared as these projects and initiatives progress, giving residents a closer look at whatโ€™s happening throughout Abbeville.

Youโ€™ve seen the City of Abbeville flag flying around town, but have you ever wondered what all of the symbols on it actually mean? Thereโ€™s quite a bit of history behind its design. Created by local optometrist Dr. S.J. LaBorde, the flag was officially adopted by the Abbeville City Council on July 21, 1958.

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐‚๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ: Represents Abbevilleโ€™s founder, Father Antoine Dรฉsirรฉ Mรฉgret.

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐˜๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐…๐ฅ๐ž๐ฎ๐ซ-๐๐ž-๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ: Represents Abbevilleโ€™s Acadian heritage and the French ancestry of the Acadians who settled this area of southwest Louisiana.
