TOWNVILLE - Relationships matter. Partnerships matter even more.

We are incredibly grateful to Townville Volunteer Fire Department for stepping up and loaning us a ladder truck for our use.

This is more than simply sharing a piece of apparatus - it is a reflection of the relationships we build and the partnerships that endure when organizations are willing to stand beside one another.

In the fire service, we are stronger when we work together. We value the relationships we have with our neighboring departments and will never take the trust and generosity of our partners for granted.

Thank you, Townville Fire Department and Chief Mark Bryant, for your willingness to help and for demonstrating what the fire service is truly about: people helping people and partnerships that endure.

MCCORMICK COUNTY - Busy afternoon for our volunteers!

Also just after 4PM, Bethia VFD (Station #14) and Sharon Fire Rescue (Station #1) were requested mutual aid to assist McCormick County Emergency Services with several buildings and vehicles on fire in the 1900 Block of Mars Bridge Road in Mount Carmel.

Upon arrival, our members assisted with extinguishment and rural water supply operations.

A camper, tractor, 1 and an ATV were destroyed in the fire. In addition about 3 acres of woods were on fire as well.

All ACFS companies have returned to the county and are back in service.

HODGES - Just past 4PM, Donalds Fire Department (Station #7), Due West Fire-Rescue (Station #10) & the Public Safety Director responded to assist Greenwood County Fire Service and Hodges-Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire in the 4000 Block of Highway 246 North.

Our members helped with defensive operations and other duties assigned by GCFS Command.

All ACFS companies have returned to the county and are back in service.

LONG CANE - This morning just past 10:30AM, Abbeville County 911 received notification of a fire in the 100 Block of Austin Drive.

Long Cane VFD (Station #8), Cold Spring Fire and Rescue (Station #2), Sharon Fire Rescue (Station #1), Headquarters (Station #20) & Northwest Volunteer Fire Department (Automatic Aid) were dispatched to respond.

Upon arrival, our members found a kitchen on fire. Through quick action, the fire was contained.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for any hidden fire extension - there was none. They also used positive pressure ventilation fans to remove residual smoke.

Abbeville County Department of Public Safety (ACEMS) was on standby for our personnel. There were no injuries.

Abbeville County Sheriff's Office was also on the scene.

The property has been turned back over to the homeowner. All ACFS companies have returned to service.

HEADQUARTERS - Ever wonder how we keep the air on our backs 100% reliable when duty calls? 🚒💨

Behind the scenes, our 4,500 psi SCBA cylinders undergo hydrostatic testing to stay compliant with NFPA 1852 (the national standard for SCBA selection, care, and maintenance).

Holding 4,500 pounds per square inch of breathing air is no small job. Over time, heavy use, temperature swings, and constant refill cycles put wear on the cylinders.

Each cylinder gets filled with water and pressurized beyond its standard 4,500 psi rating every 5 years. This test measures how the vessel wall expands and relaxes, proving it maintains the structural integrity required to hold high pressure.

Here is why this required routine maintenance matters:

* Structural Integrity Verification: Pressurizing cylinders beyond their standard limit in a controlled environment ensures the vessel shell remains strong, flexible, and ready for action.

* Safety in the Danger Zone: Firefighters enter Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) environments relying on every piece of gear. Verified air cylinders mean zero doubts when breathing SCBA supplied air.

* Meeting Strict Standards: Adhering to NFPA 1852 keeps our safety protocols fully aligned with OSHA and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.

When our crews step off the truck, total confidence in our gear is everything. Big thanks to Mr. Ryan Hair and Palmetto Hydro Solutions, LLC for helping us keep every cylinder certified, compliant, and ready to perform!

We are also grateful to Abbeville County Council and Administration for their support of this invaluable testing that ensures our firefighters remain safe while they perform their duties!

WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN -
🚒 Big Upgrade for Abbeville County Fire Service! 🚒

We are excited to welcome a "new-to-us" Air & Light Unit to our fleet, acquired from our brothers and sisters at the Whitewater Township Fire Department in Michigan!

What does this mean for our firefighters on scene?

* Breathe Easy: This specialized unit carries a high-pressure compressor to refill SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) cylinders right on the fireground. No more waiting or running low during major, extended incidents—our crews can swap them quickly and keep working safely along with refilling on scene.

* Light Up the Night: It features powerful, high-intensity floodlights to illuminate large emergency scenes, drastically improving visibility and safety during nighttime rescues and structure fires.

* Environmental Protection: Beyond our daily responses, our new truck is outfitted to respond to minor hazmat situations, keeping our community safe from all types of hazards.

We wish to thank Abbeville County Council and Administration for supporting this capital project.

Local tie in - Clay Cooper is from Abbeville County and now lives nearby, serving with Michigan Department of Natural Resources. He came over to meet our folks and is excited to see this apparatus going back home with us!
