Detective Nugier has served with the department since 2019 and continues to demonstrate dedication and commitment in serving the citizens of Abbeville.

Abbeville Police Department's K9 Duke has received donation of body armor
Abbeville Police Department, LA, K9 Duke has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Duke's vest was embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of Carol Crate"
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,225 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978.

📢 Congratulations, Officer Michael Goodrich! 🎓

We are thrilled to announce that Officer Michael Goodrich has officially graduated from the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy! As he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his career, we want to recognize his passion for learning and dedication to serving our community.

When he's not on duty, Michael cherishes quality time with his family some of which are also Police Officers. He also enjoys hitting the gym to stay fit. Not only is he committed to his new role as a police officer, but he is also proudly serving in the Army National Guard.

On June 8, 2025, at approximately 2105 hours, the Abbeville Police Department responded to a Shots fired call at the corner of Dutel and Franks Alley. We received 8 other complaints about shots fired in that area. The suspects were Southbound on Dutel in a White Cadillac SUV. Three occupants of the SUV exited the vehicle and shot an excess of 40 rounds at two people in parked cars. Both victims were struck in the leg area. They were transported to Abbeville General where they were stabilized and transported to another local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
