ASSISTING OUR FIRST RESPONDERS

Today, the Abbeville Police Department assisted the Abbeville Fire Department during its response to a structure fire at the former Abbeville Skating Rink on John Hardy Drive.

APD officers helped secure the area and restrict traffic along John Hardy Drive, providing firefighters and other emergency personnel with the space needed to safely access the scene and conduct fire suppression operations.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of motorists who encountered traffic restrictions during the response.

A special thank you to the firefighters from Abbeville, Erath, Maurice, Meaux-Nunez, and the 7th Ward, along with Acadian Ambulance, for their response and continued commitment to keeping our communities safe.

When an emergency happens, teamwork between our local agencies matters.

At Abbeville General, the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff remains our top priority.

Today, the Abbeville Police Department joins the Youngsville Police Department, Randy’s family, friends, fellow officers, and law enforcement officers across Louisiana in remembering Officer Randy Guidry.

Randy was not only a respected law enforcement officer, but he was also a part of the Abbeville Police Department family, having served our community during his career.

Although time and duty may take officers to different agencies, the bonds formed through law enforcement and the communities we serve never truly fade.

Today, we remember Randy for his service, dedication, sacrifice, and the impact he made on those fortunate enough to know and work alongside him.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Guidry family, the Youngsville Police Department, and all of Randy’s brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

Your service mattered.
Your sacrifice mattered.
Your memory will continue to matter.

As you enjoy the Independence Day holiday, the Abbeville Police Department would like to remind everyone that fireworks are prohibited within the Abbeville city limits in accordance with City Ordinance Chapter 7, Section 7-2.. Your cooperation helps protect our neighborhoods and first responders while keeping everyone safe.

If you're traveling, drive responsibly, watch for pedestrians, and look out for one another.

Abbeville Police Department's K9 Rico to get donation of body armor
Abbeville Police Department, LA-K9 Rico will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vest Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Rico's vest will be embroidered with the sentiment "This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc." Delivery is expected within ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor of four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom-fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,513 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest.
