Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office K9 Rookie has received donation of body armor

Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, GA - K9 Rookie has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Rookie’s vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,603 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978. 🚍 School is back in session! Starting Friday, please use extra caution around our schools during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.

Be alert for stopped school buses, watch for children crossing the road, and allow yourself a little extra travel time as traffic may be heavier than usual.

You may also see our School Resource Officer directing traffic to help keep students, parents, and staff safe. Please slow down, follow all traffic directions, and be patient as everyone works together to ensure a safe start and end to the school day.

It is always a privilege to work alongside the Rochelle Police Department, GDC, and GSP. We are grateful for these partnerships as we work together to keep Wilcox County safe. Drone activity and contraband are countywide issues that affect every community, not just Wilcox State Prison in Abbeville.

Join us for the Operation Blue Christmas Adult Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Rochelle Recreation Department!

🥎 Team Registration: $300 per team
👥 Co-Ed Requirement: Minimum of 3 females on each team
🏆 Cash Prize awarded to the 1st place team!

All proceeds will benefit Operation Blue Christmas, helping provide clothes, toys, and gifts for local children in need this Christmas season.

💙🎄What is Operation Blue Christmas?

Operation Blue Christmas is a charity started three years ago by Deputy Justin Dopson of the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office. Every dollar raised goes toward purchasing clothes and Christmas gifts for children and families in need throughout the community. Once the gifts are purchased and carefully wrapped, Deputy Dopson dresses as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and personally delivers them to each child. During each visit, children have the opportunity to spend time with Santa, share their Christmas wishes, and take photos, creating special memories while ensuring every child experiences the joy and magic of Christmas.
