I just want everyone to know that the city of Abbeville Police Department has been busy apprehending criminals that were trying to get contraband into the prison. Great job Chief Bruce Carmichael and his officers!!!!!! All this was just over a week ago and over several days.

A.P.D.

In the early morning hours of July 21, and 22, a joint effort between Abbeville Police Department, Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Officers and the Wilcox State Prison, yielded the interception of approximately forty (40) bundles of contraband, that were intended to be delivered to inmates at Wilcox State Prison. During the course of this investigation, Officers had to chase multiple subjects on foot around the Abbeville area, in their attempt to flee from apprehension. Subsequently, four (4) subjects were arrested in a two night time frame. All those arrested were from the Atlanta area. Both cases will be handled by Abbeville P.D. Investigator, due to the fact that no contraband actually made it across guard lines and onto State Property (Wilcox Prison). Seized at the time of arrest of these subjects was a total of approximately 12,000 grams of Tobacco, approximately 800 grams of Marijuana, and over 50 Cell Phones, chargers, and other miscellaneous items prohibited to be possessed by Inmates at Wilcox State Prison. Seizures of this magnitude, prevents large sums of money from reaching the intended hands of gang members and others on the inside of the Prison that distribute prohibited contraband. By intercepting a large number of cell phones and charges, as the case was here, It also hinders their ability to communicate amongst themselves inside and to make contact with those on the outside that are involved. This is an ongoing problem, with no end, However, Abbeville Police Department is committed daily to continue to monitor this activity, and arrest those responsible, that come into our community, with the sole intention of committing criminal acts.

While the current shelter in place order will expire tonight at 11:59 PM for most Georgians, the elderly and medically fragile will still be required to shelter in place through June 12.

I encourage all Georgians to continue to maintain social distancing, limit their travel, and use best practices. Gatherings of more than 10 people will not be allowed unless it is possible to maintain 6 feet of distance.

Everyone be careful and safe out there. We have over 40 cases of the Corona virus and 4 deaths in our county. Please; if not for your sake, then at least for the sake of the elderly and the ones with health conditions. Do your part and wear masks, gloves, and maintain 6 feet distance. Also wash constantly and try not to touch your face. This is a highly contagious virus. This has put a strain on the medical community so keep them in your prayers. Also, please keep each one in your prayers.

This is not a SCAM OR PRANK- Quote below is from the Athens- Clarke County Police Department in Athens, Ga. Please post publicly where possible. For verification please contact the Athens-Clarke Police Department. Please be on the lookout for Kayla (10 years old) and Heather Unbehaun (35 years old). Both females have been missing since July of 2017. They were last seen in Illinois. Heather is Kayla's non-custodial parent, and Illinois authorities believe that Heather kidnapped Kayla and brought her to the Athens, Georgia area, and we have had some suspected sightings of them in the Athens area recently. Please alert police if they bring the dog Peaches in for any care. There is an active nationwide arrest warrant for Heather Unbehaun for child abduction. If you have information that could help authorities, please contact Sgt. Dickson of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department at 706-613-3888 ext. 792. If you see Kayla or Heather Unbehaun, please call 9-1-1.
