At 3:55 AM on Sunday, August 23rd, Central Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of smoke alarms sounding and a residence smelling of smoke in the City of Colby.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the basement. The homeowner quickly used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames, preventing the fire from spreading throughout the remainder of the home.
Firefighters conducted a complete overhaul of the scene to ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished. All occupants and pets inside the home were able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
Central Fire & EMS reminds residents that working smoke alarms and having a fire extinguisher readily available can make a critical difference during a fire.
