"VFW Day in 2021/2022 - When, Where, Why, How is Celebrated?" https://www.holidayscalendar.com/event/vfw-day/

The VFW is an organization that was found on September 29, 1899, by a small group of war veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine–American War. Their purpose was simple: to advocate for the needs of their members and to honor the men and women who have served the U.S. And National V...

Where were you on 9/11? A question we’ve been asking each other for 20 years, but the memories have never left us or faded. What started as an ordinary day is remembered in extraordinary detail, from your morning routine to the moment you heard a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. Throughout this week, we’ll share the stories from our very own APG teammates from that fateful day.

“When 9/11 occurred, I was working in Sugar Grove, West Virginia. A co-worker informed me of the terrible occurrence. I immediately contacted my brother, who is a Philadelphia Police Officer, to see if the family was safe and to see if the officials in New York and Washington, DC needed any assistance. To help keep America safe, I signed up and went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer. After attending my Basic Officer Leadership Course, I took a military tour to Iraq to assist with Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning from overseas, I started working with the JPEO-CBD located in Falls Church, VA. While working with the JPEO-CBD my co-workers would tell me stories of how they were driving up I-395 and saw the plane fly over their vehicle into the Pentagon. The stories were horrific.

To continue aiding in making America safe, I performed two tours as a government civilian with the Army Corps of Engineers, assisting with overseeing the construction projects in Iraq to aid the Iraqi people with helping them to have a better, more prosperous life. After, these two tours, I performed one tour as a government civilian in Afghanistan with the 401st AFSB as a Budget Analyst. I wanted to assist the effort in Afghanistan to make things safer for the American citizens in the United States.”

-James Brinson, PEO C3T

FDA Urges People to Donate Blood as Coronavirus Fears Intensify

The ASBP is hosting our next blood drive at APG North! The blood drive will be on MONDAY, MARCH 15th, 0900-1400, at the Top of the Bay. If you have not donated blood in the past 56 days, we hope to see you at this blood drive. If so, tell your friends!
We are in dire need of O Pos/Negs, AB Positive, and AB Negative. As you know O neg is the universal donor and AB’s are used for plasma (the product that stops the bleeding of the severely wounded). All of these types are extremely rare and hard to get. So please find it in your heart to come during the hours and donate blood.
The ASBP is prepared and taking steps to ensure the continued safety of our deployed troops and adequacy of the blood storage as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread. As an eligible donor, we are asking you for your donation to continue to save the lives of the troops and maintain the adequacy of the blood supply. If the coronavirus continues to spread, additional challenges could potentially reduce the number of eligible donors. Besides, routine blood donor measures that are already in place should prevent individuals with clinical respiratory infections from donating blood. Please see the video from the FDA and the major blood donor agencies below:
Caution-https://youtu.be/M9_npeEBwCQ
Major changes are taking place for many blood donors who were previously deferred, whether temporarily or indefinitely. The FDA has evaluated and modified current policies regarding the eligibility of certain previously deferred donors, based on data from new studies showing these changes can safely expand the nation’s blood supply.
1. Those stationed at US Military Bases in Europe may now be able to donate. The changes remove the deferral for geographical risk of vCJD. Deferrals still apply only the UK from 1980-1996 (3 months or more cumulative), and France or Ireland from 1980-2001 (5 years or more cumulative).
2. Travel to malaria endemic countries have changed from 12 months to 3 months.
3. Tattoos, body and ear piercings, and nonprescription drug injections done in a parlor not regulated from the state has changed from 12 months to 3 months.
4. And all sexual activity deferrals have changed from 12 months to 3 months.
5. We also have an update in the deferral process if you have received the COVID-19 vaccine. If you received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine the deferral period is 14 days from the date of EACH injection. If you have received any other COVID -19 vaccine, such as the Astra Zeneca trial, there is a deferral period of 1 year.
The DoD is supporting us with the offer of $15 e-gift cards for donors as a thank you for your support of the Armed Services Blood Program. This ecard can be used at many online retailers or can also be donated to a variety of charities. Details on redemption will be provided to you at the blood drive. Donors who are issued a bag for donation are eligible, we are not able to give them to donors that are deferred.
You can make your appointment online at militarydonor.com using sponsor code: APGMD or through this link: Caution-https://militarydonor.com/index.cfm?group=op&step=2&opid=92515&opidh=37F1A9D40B4DFAE4D0924E996383AE02&idt=44249.5312269.
