This month, Mayor Greg Cannon and the Township Council will also be proclaiming support for Opioid Overdose Awareness.

We honor and mourn our many friends in Aberdeen lost to the opioid epidemic by supporting every effort to educate the public, and especially our children, about the dangers of opioids.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a moment to reflect, honor Black history, and keep pushing for justice and equality.

Happy Juneteenth.

At last night’s Council Meeting, Aberdeen Township proclaimed June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, Juneteenth reminds us that our nation’s story is one of both progress and perseverance. It is a time to reflect on our history, celebrate freedom, and honor the contributions of African Americans who have helped shape our country.

Happy Juneteenth.
