A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through Friday. Strong wind gusts turn westerly this afternoon, and will reach 35 to 45 miles per hour once again Friday afternoon. These winds will combine with afternoon humidity down below 25 percent during the afternoon, leading to critical fire weather conditions. Fires that start may be difficult to control or suppress.

Strong southeast winds this morning ahead of a passing dry front shift to the west by afternoon. Gusts of 35 to 50 mph are expected today. Winds diminish overnight briefly before increasing again on Friday, especially north of Hwy 12. If any fires start, the strong winds will cause rapid fire spread.

We have fire weather headlines in effect through Friday, here's the latest info!

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 9 PM CDT this evening. Widespread humidity below 25 percent as well as gusts between 25 and 35 miles per hour have been observed this afternoon. Gusts are expected to increase, up to 45 miles per hour this evening.

Another Red Flag Warning will be in effect Thursday morning through early Thursday evening. Winds gusting to 35 to 45 miles per hour in the afternoon are expected, combining with humidity between 15 and 25 percent. High to Very High Grassland Fire Danger will be in place, and the entire forecast area is under a Red Flag Warning.

A Fire Weather Watch is in effect Friday, valid from 10 AM CDT through 10 PM CDT. Humidity between 15 and 25 percent combines with wind gusts up to 45 to 50 miles per hour. High to Very High Grassland Fire Danger is expected, with some pockets of Extreme Grassland Fire Danger possible.

Winds shift to the west to northwest Thursday afternoon and increase with gusts 35 to 50 mph. On Thursday, winds will be strongest across north central SD, but the gusty winds spread east on Friday. As humidity falls to 15 to 25 percent each day, fire conditions will become critical. Blowing dust may also be an issue each day with the strongest winds.

Here are the latest headlines in place today and Wednesday!

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 9 PM CDT this evening, and a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 7 PM CDT. Humidity below 25 percent and northwesterly gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour are expected for the remainder of the afternoon, before conditions begin to improve this evening. Some localized gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour have been observed so far this afternoon. The dry conditions and strong winds create Very High Grassland Fire Danger this afternoon, and fires that start will be difficult to control. Winds of this strength may also make driving difficult.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Wednesday from 10 AM MDT through 9 PM MDT. Humidity as low as 20 percent and southerly winds gusting to 35 to 45 miles per hour will combine during the afternoon to create critical fire weather conditions. Very High Grassland Fire Danger will be in place under the warned area.

A Wind Advisory continues to be in effect today for northern SD counties and west central MN. Sustained northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will be gusting up to 45 mph, with some localized gusts up to 50 mph in the Leola and Sisseton Hills areas.
