Happy June 1st, everyone! ☀️

Somehow we blinked and May is gone… and we’re rapidly approaching that special time of year we all dread (we mean totally look forward to… 😅) — when the kids are out of school full-time.

Traffic’s about to get interesting, grocery store trips will become tactical missions, and “I’m bored” will become the song of the summer.

Yeah — if you thought it was busy around town before… just wait. It’s about to feel like a parade, a field trip, and rush hour all teamed up at the exact same time. 🚗💨

Stay safe out there, folks… it’s almost showtime. 🎬

Yesterday, a group of our officers hit the road to Raleigh for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg in support of Special Olympics North Carolina! 🔥🏃‍♂️

Alongside nearly 500 law enforcement officers from across North Carolina, they carried the torch 5.3 miles through Raleigh to help kick off the Summer Games.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the day was sharing those miles with 6 incredible Special Olympics athletes who made the trek with us. Their excitement, determination, and energy made the day even more special.

We’re proud to have been part of such an amazing tradition and honored to support Special Olympics North Carolina as the Summer Games officially got underway. What an incredible way to celebrate the athletes and the spirit of the games! 🏅👏

Our officers are reporting that each time they step outside of their cruisers today, they immediately feel like they walked into a crock pot 🥵🍲

If you see them moving a little slower today, just know they're not slacking—they’re just trying not to evaporate 💀

⬇️UPDATE: Following Incident at Southern Middle School⬇️

On May 21, 2026, just after 9:00 a.m., officers with the Aberdeen Police Department responded to Southern Middle School following a report of a possible armed individual on campus. The report was received by Moore County Schools via a phone call, and law enforcement assistance was immediately requested.

All available Aberdeen officers responded, along with support from neighboring agencies. Thorough primary and secondary searches of the entire school and all surrounding areas were conducted. No suspect was located, and no weapons or evidence indicating the presence of a weapon were found.

Further investigation determined that there was no active threat to the school and the phone call was determined to be non-credible. The origin and nature of the initial call remain under investigation and persons of interest have been identified by Moore County Schools Police.

This statement is intended to clarify the Aberdeen Police Department’s role in yesterday’s response, as the investigation remains active with Moore County Schools Police.

We are grateful for the swift and coordinated response from Moore County Schools Police and assisting agencies, including the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Southern Pines Police Department, who provided valuable support with traffic control throughout Aberdeen.

Most importantly, we are thankful that all students, staff, and community members are safe.

In honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, the Aberdeen Police Department front office will be **closed on Monday, May 25, 2026** in observance of **Memorial Day**.

We pause to remember, reflect, and honor those who gave everything for our freedom. ❤️🤍💙

To everyone who spent January through March saying “I can’t WAIT for summer” every time it dipped below 50°…

THIS is on you. 😂☀️

You manifested this. You summoned the surface of the sun directly to North Carolina. Now it’s been mid 90s for days.... humidity thick enough to chew, and suddenly everybody’s hiding indoors like vampires.

Oh no no no. We better see y’all outside enjoying every sweaty second of it. Sit on those scorching bleachers. Burn your hands on the steering wheel. Walk to the mailbox and immediately regret your decisions.

And don’t even THINK about touching that AC dial. You said you wanted the heat. Here it is, baby. 🥵

As we reflect on a weekend full of Special Olympics events, we can’t help but feel incredibly honored to be a part of it all. 💙🔥

From our Torch Run to our Bowling Fundraiser, the support from this community made both events a great success. But even before those, we had the privilege of participating in the Special Olympics Spring Games at Pinecrest High School.

Watching our local athletes compete, give it their all, and support one another was nothing short of inspiring. It was truly a special moment for our department to help carry the Flame of Hope into the stadium to officially open the games.

The Flame of Hope is a long-standing tradition of Special Olympics, symbolizing courage, inclusion, and the spirit of competition — values that these athletes represent so well.

We are grateful to play even a small role in something so meaningful, and we look forward to continuing our support for these incredible athletes throughout the year. 💙
