⚠️ Severe Weather Preparedness Reminder ⚠️

As we head into the summer severe weather season, we want to remind everyone that our outdoor warning sirens are currently undergoing repairs and may not be operational during severe weather events.

Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors and should never be your only source of weather information. We strongly encourage all residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including:

📱 Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your cell phone
📻 NOAA Weather Radio
📺 Local television and radio stations
🌐 Trusted weather apps and online weather services
📲 Social media updates from local emergency management and weather agencies

Now is a great time to review your family's severe weather plan and ensure you can receive warnings day or night.

We will continue to provide updates on the status of the siren repairs. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to restore the system.

Stay weather aware and stay safe!

Detectives Zack Krage and Kyle Fadness recently completed training at Gracie University in Torrance, California, where they recertified as Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) Level 2 instructors. GST is a defensive tactics system based on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu that incorporates time-tested techniques into an easy-to-learn program designed to help officers verbally and physically de-escalate situations while safely and humanely controlling resistant or aggressive subjects.

The Aberdeen Police Department has utilized the GST program since 2015. Krage and Fadness will continue training Aberdeen Police Department officers in the techniques and systems taught through Gracie University.

Ongoing training in de-escalation and defensive tactics helps officers respond more effectively to challenging situations while improving safety for officers, subjects, and the Aberdeen community.

A transport carrying empty nitrogen tanks traveling from Duluth to Alberta, Canada, caused significant traffic delays for approximately one hour on 6th Avenue today. Local authorities were not notified of the transport prior to it entering town. The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the transport and determined that it was compliant with all required permitting regulations. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during the temporary traffic disruptions.
