As we sit here and get everything back in order at the fire station, we are reminded once again how incredible this community truly is.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who stepped up and supported us while we were serving the community. From those who brought food to keep our crews going, to the individuals and businesses who donated sleeping bags for our emergency shelter, provided space to store vehicles, and contributed financially. Your generosity did not go unnoticed.

We are also very thankful to report that no one needed to utilize the emergency shelter, and we only responded to a few minor calls during the event. We were truly blessed.

We would much rather have an extreme game plan in place and not need to use it than be unprepared when our community needs us most.

Abernathy is more than just a town! It’s a community that shows up when it counts. We are beyond grateful for your continued support, trust, and kindness.

Thank you for standing behind us when it matters the most!

With the snow and ice now impacting our area, there is potential for power outages. Please know that the Abernathy Fire Department is prepared and has a backup generator in place to maintain operations during an outage.

If you or someone you know becomes desperate due to loss of power, heat, or unsafe living conditions, please reach out to us. We have cots and sleeping bags available and can provide a warm, safe place to stay.

🚨 Important Notice:
For the safety of everyone, anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol is NOT permitted to stay at the fire station. Individuals who arrive under the influence will be arrested and provided free transportation to a warm stay at the Hale County Jail.

This is a family-friendly environment, and mutual respect is required at all times.

🚨 Public Safety Reminder 🚨

We want to take a moment to thank our citizens for their continued support and cooperation, especially during severe weather. We understand that no one wants their vehicle damaged by hail, and we truly sympathize with that concern.

However, we must emphasize that parking under the 1st Street Bridge and 16th Street Bridge in the lanes of travel is strictly prohibited. These actions create serious safety hazards:

✅ They block emergency personnel who may need to respond quickly.
✅ They put other drivers at risk, especially those approaching from behind who may not be able to stop in time.
✅ They violate state law, and violators may face legal consequences.

As a reminder, Texas Penal Code § 42.03 – Obstructing Highway or Other Passageway states:

A person commits an offense if, without legal privilege or authority, they intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly:

(1) Obstruct a highway, street… or any other place used for the passage of persons or vehicles; or
(2) Disobey a reasonable request to move issued by a peace officer or fireman.

⚖️ An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor.

If a police officer or firefighter asks you to move, you must do so immediately. This is for your safety and the safety of everyone on the road.

We appreciate your understanding and commitment to keeping our community safe. Please help us spread the word and protect one another.

Stay safe and thank you for your cooperation.
