✨ The Golden Antelope is BACK! ✨

Golden Antelope was a huge success last year, and while our spring schedules got a little hectic, we are excited to get it rolling again this year!

Come join us this Friday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the Big Room. We already have a full agenda, and we are looking forward to hearing updates from all of our campuses, celebrating some great things happening across Abernathy ISD, and introducing a few new faces along the way!

Golden Antelope is all about connection, communication, and celebrating the people who make our district special. We would love to have you there!

See you Friday! 💛

Sometimes the most important work in a school doesn’t come with a title. It simply comes from seeing a need and stepping in.

Today, our principals were at ESC 17 learning and growing through a conference on student discipline. That left us needing a little extra help during lunch duty.

Our Business Office didn’t hesitate.

They stepped away from budgets, payroll, purchasing, and everything else on their plates and stepped right into the cafeteria to serve our kids and help make lunch run smoothly.

That may seem like a small thing, but it says a lot about the people of Abernathy ISD.

Around here, we all have one goal: creating the best possible environment for our kids. And when that is truly the goal, titles don’t matter nearly as much as being willing to see a need and fill a need.

These are the kinds of things that happen every single day in schools and often go unnoticed. Lunch duty. Covering a class. Helping a student. Picking something up in the hallway. Stepping in wherever an extra set of hands is needed.

None of it is “just” a small task. It all matters because kids are on the other side of it.

We are incredibly blessed to have people who understand that.

No matter the title. No matter the department. We are all here for kids.

We are thankful for Mrs. Nick and her willingness to drop her incredibly important duties in our district to help out in this tragic time for our neighbors.

Our school colors may differ, but we all are in it for the kids.

Our hearts are heavy, but we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, support, thoughts, and prayers extended to Hale Center ISD and our entire community during this very difficult time.

To the school districts and communities from across our region and throughout the state who have reached out, prayed for us, and offered their support—thank you. Your kindness has reminded us that in moments like these, we are not alone.

I especially want to express my sincere gratitude to Region 17 Education Service Center, Abernathy ISD, Lubbock-Cooper ISD, and Olton ISD for immediately stepping forward and sending counselors to assist our students and staff across the district. Your willingness to stand beside us and care for our people when we needed it most is something we will never forget.

There are moments when the boundaries between school districts disappear and we simply become one educational family caring for one another. Today has been one of those moments.

On behalf of Hale Center ISD and our Trustees, thank you for wrapping your arms around our students, our staff, our families, and our community.

We are forever grateful to you all.

Now let’s talk about the BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN TEXAS!

Abernathy High School earned an “A” rating!

And here’s what makes that so impressive: getting to the top is hard.

Staying there is even harder.

When you’re already an “A” campus, there isn’t much room for error. It takes consistency, focus, high expectations, and a whole lot of people doing the little things right every single day.

AHS did exactly that.

They also earned 4 out of 7 Distinction Designations from TEA:
⭐ Academic Achievement in Reading/Language Arts
⭐ Academic Achievement in Mathematics
⭐ Academic Achievement in Science
⭐ Academic Achievement in Social Studies

But there are two more numbers we REALLY want to celebrate:

100% GRADUATION RATE. 🎓

And a 94 College, Career, and Military Readiness score!

That means our students aren’t just walking across the stage with a diploma.

They are leaving Abernathy High School with a PLAN.

Our counselor Mrs. Horsford, Principal Mr. Albright, all the teachers, and staff are working with students to make sure they are following their selected pathways, completing those pathways, and preparing for whatever comes next: college, career, military service, or another opportunity waiting for them beyond high school.

That is what preparing students for life looks like.

An “A” rating.
4 Distinctions.
100% graduation.
A 94 CCMR score.

Excellence doesn’t happen by accident.

AHS, we SEE the work. We APPRECIATE the work. And we are incredibly PROUD of you!

Do you want to hear about the BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL IN TEXAS?

Let’s talk about Abernathy Middle School

Last year, AMS experienced incredible growth and climbed all the way to a 90, earning an “A” rating just four years after being in school improvement.

That alone is a story worth celebrating.

But this group wasn’t satisfied.

Their goal this year was simple: KEEP GETTING BETTER.

And that’s exactly what they did.

AMS moved from a 90 to a 91!

Now, one point may not sound like much… but when you’re already knocking the top off, continued growth gets harder and harder.

And AMS STILL FOUND A WAY TO GROW. 👏

They also earned 5 out of 7 Distinction Designations from TEA:
⭐ Academic Achievement in Mathematics
⭐ Academic Achievement in Science
⭐ Top 25%: Comparative Academic Growth
⭐ Postsecondary Readiness
⭐ Top 25%: Comparative Closing the Gaps

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens because students are challenged.
Because teachers refuse to settle.
Because staff members stay focused on growth.
And because the entire campus believes that "good enough" is never the goal.

From school improvement to an A-rated campus… and then finding a way to get even better.

That’s something special.

AMS, we SEE you. We APPRECIATE you. And we are incredibly PROUD of you!

A 91.
5 Distinctions.
Continued growth at the top.

The BEST Middle School in Texas.

Way to go, AMS!

We’re going to spend the next few days celebrating just how incredibly our campuses performed in this year’s A–F Ratings… and there’s no better place to start than with the BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN TEXAS, Abernathy Elementary School!

11 POINTS.

That’s how much AES GREW this year.

ELEVEN. POINTS. 👏👏👏

And it didn’t stop there.

AES earned 4 out of 6 Distinction Designations from TEA:
⭐ Academic Achievement in Science
⭐ Top 25%: Comparative Academic Growth
⭐ Postsecondary Readiness
⭐ Top 25%: Comparative Closing the Gaps

Oh… and they finished just THREE POINTS away from an “A”!

That kind of growth doesn’t just happen.

It happens because teachers dig in.
Because students keep showing up and working.
Because staff members believe in kids.
Because a campus decides that growth matters and then goes to work.

And they did all of this while implementing new curriculum and working through the challenges that come with doing something new.

AES, we SEE you. We APPRECIATE you. And we are incredibly PROUD of you!

The numbers tell part of the story.

But the people behind those numbers? That’s what makes Abernathy Elementary special.

11 points of growth.
4 Distinctions.
3 points from an A.

The BEST Elementary School in Texas.

Great job, AES!

We were shooting for that “A” as a district—and we came incredibly close with a scaled score of 89! But when we look beyond the letter grade, there is SO much to celebrate in Abernathy ISD! 🙌

⭐ Abernathy High School — A
⭐ Abernathy Middle School — A
📈 Abernathy Elementary — B & grew an incredible 11 POINTS!
📈 Abernathy ISD — 89 overall!

That kind of growth doesn’t just happen. It represents countless hours of hard work, great teaching, students who kept pushing, and a staff that shows up every single day, determined to make a difference.

Are we satisfied? Never. We’ll keep learning, growing, and chasing that next level. But we are also going to take time to celebrate the people and the progress along the way.

To our teachers, staff, students, families, and everyone who poured into our Antelopes this past year, THANK YOU! We are incredibly proud of you.

Growth matters. Hard work matters. And our people are worth celebrating!

Proud of ALL our Antelopes!

Go Lopes!
