All aboard for dinner with a view!

The Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad is welcoming fall with the Just-About-Autumn Express on Saturday, September 5, featuring a delicious dinner prepared by Murphy’s Kitchen.

🚂 Depart Abilene’s historic Rock Island Depot at 6 p.m.
🍽️ Enjoy Murphy’s famous 24-hour smoked brisket with roast potatoes and grilled corn on the cob
🥗 Start with a fall-inspired salad with candied walnuts, dried cranberries, bleu cheese, and white balsamic vinaigrette
🍮 Finish with crème brûlée
🌾 Travel through the Smoky Hill River Valley with a stop at Hoffman Mill and General Store in Enterprise
⏰ Enjoy a two-hour Kansas rail adventure

🕵️ The Murder in the Chicago Car experience takes place only in the Chicago car and is SOLD OUT. Seats are still available in the other passenger cars for the regular dinner train experience!

Mor Power!!!

Many riders are aware we were having generator and air conditioning issues during the last week of Sunflower Summer and ended up simmering in the oppressive Kansas heat.

We stopped operations on August 9th to address the problem and (hopefully) let the highest heat of summer pass on by.

During our downtime we have installed a new (to us) 75 kw generator unit to replace the persnickety older unit. This should alleviate the problems we were having.

We are also making some improvements to our sound system.

We look forward to starting our fall season on August 29th with stable power, better sound and cooler weather!! We hope to see you this Fall as we begin operations again on August 29th.

🎃🚂 The Pumpkin Harvest Express is rolling into October!

Our 2026 schedule is officially here! Join us aboard the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad for a special one-hour fall excursion through the Smoky Valley countryside, complete with a stop at the pumpkin patch where kids can pick out a pumpkin to take home. 🍂

With rides offered on select dates October 17–31, there are plenty of chances to make this fall tradition part of your family’s season.
