1857 Section Foreman House

1857 Section Foreman House ....Looking through my windows As you look through my kitchen windows, close your eyes and pretend you are seeing what I once did.

I saw the pain and glory of the Civil War, men dying and the slaves set free. I saw the trains pass through carrying hobo's, Elvis Presley, and the President of the United States. First Ladies got off the trains at the station and visited downtown Abingdon. Wall Street was elbow to elbow with every walk of life - blue collar to white collar, First ladies to ladies of the night, pool hustlers to ba

nkers and lawyers. During each war the caskets were unloaded here, bringing home the fallen soldiers. The hotels and shops on Wall Street eventually fell to newer and more modern concrete structures located by the highway. Tasteless buildings built by machines, and not by the sweat of the brow like I was. My structure consists of railroad ties, 8 x 6's, tongue and groove, and handmade brick - constructed on site by men who worked for 20 cents a day.

For the past 22 yrs I have poured my heart and soul into this beautiful 166 yr old house I called "The 1857 Section Foreman House". Bobby and I purchased it in 2001 buying out the heirs of his grandparents home for many yrs. I completely restored the interior and landscaping. I spent countless hours in antique shops buying just the very fitting decor that fit into the railroad theme. I named the eight rooms after Bobbys grandparents or a theme pertaining to railroad, Depot Sq. and Wall St. with lots of O. Winton Link pictures, furnishings from the Belmont Hotel and MWI. There has been four weddings and receptions, numerous birthday parties, engagement, bridal and baby showers, prom and graduation parties, memorial dinners, Kentucky Derby and holiday parties. Numerous newspaper articles have been written about it and is now on the registry of Historic Virginia Landmarks. It has been an air B and B, a home to two of my children, a grandson and myself. Sitting just off Depot Sq at the foot of the pedestrian bridge, it has the appeal and charm of stepping back in time and living in a piece of Abingdon's history, and became my magical place. There comes a point and time in your life you realize you've enjoyed something to the fullest and it's time to let go. These past 20 months I have seen the most difficult days of my life that I thought I couldn't survive when I lost my precious son Robb. I have come to realize less is better and the material things in my life are no longer important. I relinquished the reins to the 1857 Section Foreman House to a new owner that has a dream of his own, I wish him success and the best with his new business venture and couldn't have chosen a better buyer, I am beyond thrilled he loves this house as much as I have. I am delighted and am honored he is keeping the decor that brought me fun and joy for the past twenty two yrs at the magical, railroad and Cival War house at 301 Front St. ๐Ÿ’™

My sweet neighbors with "The Front St Collection "

In the early 2000โ€™s, the booming gift shop on Front Street in historic Abingdon, Virginia, was packed to the brim with the hottest products on the market. Today, we bring you that same vibe in a more modern way.. we are packing our Front Street Collection full of what we believe that little gift shop on Front Street would look like 22 years later, and we hope it brings you just as much joy as it does us. ๐Ÿค
