The Washington County Victim Witness Program alongside the Office of the Commonwealthโ€™s Attorney gathered donations of hygiene items for Abuse Alternatives Inc. within the month of October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we wear purple today in recognition. Most importantly, we strive each day to support the victims we encounter and hold offenders accountable alongside our partnering agencies throughout the community.

According to the CDC:

About 41% of women and 26% of men experience intimate partner violence during their lifetime.

About 16 million women and 11 million men who report intimate partner violence said they experienced it before the age of 18.

The lifetime economic cost associated with intimate partner violence is 3.6 trillion dollars, not to mention the physical and emotional tolls these victims suffer.

A special thank you to Abuse Alternatives for being one of our partners in the fight to end this violence in our community and their efforts towards this work. If you or someone you know is in an unhealthy or abusive relationship call 800-799-7233 or the local domestic violence hotline at 423-764-2287, both available 24/7. ๐Ÿ’œ
