Love her work
I’ve kept a daily diary for the past 8 years, recording little slices of life. A few years ago I expanded my practice and added a Phenology Journal—a daily note about something I observed in nature.
🍃
If you’re not familiar with the term, phenology is “the study of cyclic and seasonal natural phenomena, especially in relation to climate and plant and animal life.”

Each day I jot down something that marks a seasonal shift; it’s become one of my favorite practices. It helps me feel more connected to the outdoors… and it’s such a joy to look back over the years and see patterns emerging.

Yesterday, for the first time this season, I heard the cardinal’s signature mating call. I can’t tell you how excited it makes me to notice these tiny signals of change. It’s still deeply winter here in Maine, but the subtle hints are there — longer light, more bird chatter, and the earliest stirrings of mating season.

On that note, this Northern Cardinal pair is migrating west to .gallery for a group exhibition I’m honored to be part of. More on that soon!

And I can’t post today without a nod to love: whether you have a dedicated “mate” this Valentine’s Day or not, love in all its forms is worth celebrating. Send a little extra to the people you care about. I’m sending some to you, too. ❤️
