🏛️ NEW LAW PASSED: Protecting the Families of Our Reserve and Auxiliary Officers

Louisiana has officially enacted Act 608 (House Bill No. 12) during the 2026 Regular Session, expanding critical financial protections for those who step up to protect our communities.

Sponsored by Debbie Villio State Representative and a dedicated coalition of lawmakers, this vital legislation amends state law to provide crucial survival benefits for reserve and auxiliary law enforcement officers.

🔍 What This Means:
Expanded Protection: Secures financial security and survival benefits for the surviving spouses and children of reserve or auxiliary law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Line of Duty Coverage: Applies to tragic incidents occurring while the officer is responding to emergencies, assisting the public, or traveling to/from work in an authorized agency vehicle.

Our reserve and auxiliary officers put on the badge and risk their lives alongside full-time personnel—it is only right that their families receive the same peace of mind and financial security.

Thank you to the authors and the legislature for standing behind all of Louisiana's law enforcement families! Thank you to Governor Jeff Landry for signing this important legislative.

The Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police extends its sincere appreciation to Representative Paul Sawyer for authoring House Resolution 263, which designates May 11–16, 2026, as National Police Week in Louisiana.

The resolution honors the service, dedication, and sacrifice of the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. During Representative Sawyer’s presentation of the resolution on the House floor, he was joined by numerous fellow Representatives who stood in honor and remembrance of our fallen Brothers and Sisters across Louisiana and the Nation.

This week in Washington, D.C., as part of National Police Week observances, the following Louisiana officers are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial:

• Sergeant Caleb M. Eisworth
• Deputy Sheriff Charles W. Riley
• Officer Joseph J. Lyons
• Sergeant Grant J. Candies
• Officer Marc T. Brock
• Lieutenant Allen J. Credeur, Jr.

Their names will forever be etched among our nation’s heroes — a solemn and enduring reminder of lives dedicated to protecting others.

We remember their sacrifice, honor their service, and continue to pray for the loved ones and fellow officers who carry their memory forward each day.

Protecting our officers means protecting the rules that ensure they are treated fairly. 🛡️⚖️

HB 341 is moving through the legislature, and it threatens to dismantle the Police Officers’ Bill of Rights. By removing guaranteed protections and giving administrators the power to decide your rights on a whim, this bill puts every Louisiana officer at risk.

We need a united voice to stop this. Head to our Voter Voice link now to tell your Representative: Vote NO on HB 341.

Don’t let them trade away your due process. Let’s keep our protections strong! 🚔💪 Click the link to take action. https://bit.ly/4thfLU1

The Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police joins in mourning following the tragic events in Shreveport this morning. The loss of innocent lives—especially children—is something that weighs heavily on all of us across this state.

We also stand in full support of the law enforcement officers and fellow first responders who answered the call. Faced with an unthinkable situation, they responded with courage, professionalism, and a commitment to protect and serve. From securing multiple scenes to pursuing and stopping the suspect, their actions reflect the very core of what it means to wear the badge.

Incidents like this remind us that behind every call for service are men and women who carry not only the physical demands of the job, but the emotional toll that follows. Today’s events will stay with those who responded, and they will need our continued support in the days ahead.

The FOP remains committed to standing with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement—today and every day. We ask that you keep the victims, their families, and all responding agencies in your thoughts and prayers.

🛡️ The Time for Unity is NOW
The Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police stands in full agreement: New Orleans deserves one unified, powerful representative organization. That organization is the Fraternal Order of Police.

A Foundation of Trust
Our commitment to the men and women of the NOPD isn't new—it’s built on years of advocacy and proven results. We are proud of our established relationship with Mayor Moreno, a partnership that dates back to her impactful tenure as a Representative in the Louisiana House and her time on the City Council, alongside now-CAO Joe Giarrusso.

This bond was forged through tireless collaboration between:

Our Governmental Liaison, Joe Mapes

Dedicated local members of Crescent City Lodge #2

Mayor Moreno, CAO Giarrusso, and state leadership

Stronger Together
It is time to move forward. We invite all members of the NOPD to join the nation’s and state’s largest rank-and-file law enforcement organization.

Our collective 6,000+ voice is stronger together. When we speak as one, that voice echoes louder where it matters most:

🏛️ Washington D.C.

⚖️ Baton Rouge

🎺 New Orleans

Let’s stop the fragmentation and start the unification. We are stronger together. We are the FOP.
