Let's go exploring! In preparation for the longer days of summer, the library is offering a variety of nature-themed backpacks that are available to borrow for an outdoor adventure.

Each backpack contains identification and field guides focusing on that particular pack's theme, and most contain a magnifying glass. The backpacks also contain a Ziploc bag full of information about local wildlife, natural areas, and walking trails. Two of the backpacks (Forests & Flowers / Butterflies & Pollinators) include a children's book in addition to the other materials, making them perfect for family outings.

To see a list of all of the backpacks available at ESPL, simply do a keyword search for "Backpack" in ShoreCat, the library’s catalog, at espl.org (look for the orange cat). If you’d like to borrow a backpack, and are not yet a library cardholder, apply for a free library card online at espl.org, or visit an ESPL location to apply in person. Contact the library with any questions about this program at (757)787-3400 between 10 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
