Do you know a foriegn medical school student who might benefit by applying to the Virginia Conrad 30 Waiver Program?

Federal Law requires International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who are not U.S. citizens to apply for the J-1 visa, which allows IMGs to remain in the U.S. until they complete their studies. Following their studies, the IMGs on J-1 visas (the "J-1 Physicians") must return to their home country for at least two (2) years before they can return to the U.S. (the "two-year home country physical presence requirement").

The Virginia Conrad 30 Waiver Program agrees to waive the "two-year home country physical presence requirement" by sponsoring J-1 Physicians who agree to serve in designated shortage areas of the Commonwealth.

Community Risk Reduction Coordinator Sarah Kenny shared that VDFP was proud to award 38 departments across the Commonwealth with a grant for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. That resulted in the agency providing more than 1,100 smoke alarms and 500 carbon monoxide detectors for those departments to get installed in residences.

"VDFP is proud to support locality-led canvassing efforts with alarms that reduce fatality and injury risk across the Commonwealth,” Kenny said.

Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors need to be installed by the end of the calendar year. You could have as little as two minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly. Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called β€œthe invisible killer.” CO gas can be fatal to people and pets.

TROPICS: We're watching this tropical wave that has come off Africa. It has about a 6/10 chance of developing. If it does, the next name on the list is Dolly.

Based on the current model guidance, it'll end up north of the Caribbean Islands by Sunday. Something to watch, but nothing to worry about at this time.

Hey, Eastern Shore of VA, what are your thoughts about establishing a large composting facility here to possibly compost:

Clean, dewatered dredged materials;
Wood chips and ramial wood;
Grass clippings and yard trimmings;
Agricultural vegetative waste; and
Poultry manure, litter and feathers.

Do you know about materials that could be composted? Would you use composted materials at our home or place of business if you are a lawn care specialist or landscaper? Farmers, what are your thoughts?

The picture below is of finished compost using wood chips and ramial wood, agricultural vegetative waste and horse manure. It was used to fertilize fruit trees.
