Mass-Care

Mass-Care Learn more: http://masscare.org/ We believe that Health Care is a human right.

Let's pass S.860 and H.1405 to create the Massachusetts Health Care Trust and save $30billion a year while providing medical, dental, vision, hearing, prescriptions and long term care to every resident of Massachusetts! Mass-Care’s mission is to establish a Single Payer Health Care System in Massachusetts so that all residents of the Commonwealth will have access to comprehensive, quality, afforda

ble and equitable health care because it is basic to life and human dignity. Mass-Care was launched in 1995 as a coalition of organizations sharing a deep concern about the inequities of our health care system. We now act as the grassroots organizing umbrella for more than 100 groups in Massachusetts, representing over 500,000 residents in the state fighting to make health care a right.

MDS 10 forum
On April 29, Mass-Care’s 10th Middlesex hub (Waltham, Watertown, Newton)’ had a well-attended, lively, informative virtual forum:
“The Health Care Crisis: Medicare for All is the Answer!”
Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern lead off by addressing the crisis the country and MA faces and calling for as wide a coalition as possible to fight for single payer in MA with support from the single payer efforts on the federal level’
Dr, Gordy Schiff of PNHP painted a troubling picture of what patients are actually experiencing as well as providers as they try to navigate the impossible health for profit system and keep caring for their patients.
Jon Weissman, Mass-Care Board, clarified what Single Payer via health care trust is and isn’t. and how it would work to cover everyone while providing significant health care cost relief to individuals, businesses, cities and the state and promote people-centered health care rather than healthcare for profit.
Heather Clark, South Shore Medicare for All, explained how to be a citizen activist for single payer, “anyone can do it,” and build a grassroots movement in MA.
Participants engaged in lively back and forth with panelists in the chat and during the Q&A

The CHC forum
On April 30, the Mass-Care Community Health Center Task Force held a virtual forum,
“Community Health Centers Are in Crisis: Is Single Payer Healthcare in Massachusetts the Answer?” addressing both community health centers and diminishing primary care access.
Community health centers are a critical part of health and primary care in Mass, especially for lower income, immigrant, and health care desert residents in MA and they are particularly under threat with federal cuts, rapidly rising premiums, diminishing numbers of primary care providers, etc.
Dr. Barbara Ogur facilitated and Senator Jamie Eldridge, lead senate co-sponsor of the single payer bill, emphasized the importance of COC’s in their mission to reach the underserved.
Also participating were: Dr. Barbara Gottlieb (40+ years at her CHC), Dr Damian Acher, CEO of Outer Cape Health Services
Dr. Wayne Altman, lead for legislation called Primary Care for You (PC4You),
and Jon Weissman, Mass-Care Board.
Questions and comments were challenging and insightful and speakers responses interesting.

Day three of and we're here to say that safe staffing saves lives!

The MNA's 2026 State of Nursing Survey, conducted by Beacon Research, found that a huge percentage of nurses have seen understaffing lead to negative patient outcomes, from a lack of time to provide proper care all the way to patient death.

Stay tuned for more updates from our 2026 Survey as we highlight the critical needs of our members.
