Acton Barn Cooperative Preschool Welcome to the Acton Barn! We are a cooperative preschool for children ages 2.9 years through 5 years of age.

We are located in Acton, Massachusetts in a purpose-built preschool owned by the cooperative. The Acton Barn has been a fixture of the community since 1972 and serves many surrounding towns, including Boxborough, Littleton, Maynard and Westford.

🏡 It is AUGUST, which means that it is time to start scheduling teacher home visits! As part of our gentle start philosophy, every child (both new and returning!) will be visited by their teacher just prior to the start of school. During the home visit, teachers will get to know you and your student a bit and share about what school will be like.

I see projects created with an emphasis on .
I see educators and family helpers engaging with children through pretend play, art, reading, and more.
I see a space that allows for independent and cooperative play.
I see children of mixed ages teaching and learning from each other.
I see humans celebrated for who they are and who they are becoming.

What I can’t see, but know is there, is the time spent behind the scenes by the Barn’s amazing teaching team. Thank you to Becky, Denise, Julia, Sheila, Linda, Meredith, Namita, and Maggie for a wonderful year.

🐸 Our school has been learning about the tadpole to frog life cycle this spring. These little wonders enriched not only our science experiences, but also our literacy, art, and pretend play as well! Our newly four-legged friends were returned to their pond last weekend. Thank you to the Barn family who transported them and shared them with us!

🎉 Our Barn classes recently hosted their annual end of the year Family Celebrations! To prepare for these events, students painted banners and dictated to teachers the answers to questions about their family. On the celebration days, children and their families gathered outside and the teachers read the banners aloud. The children also sang songs and enjoyed a sweet treat together.
