Earlier today, an animal-related call in the Roff area prompted staff at Roff Public Schools to bring students back inside from recess out of an abundance of caution.

A resident reported several aggressive dogs attacking animals on private property. Before deputies arrived, the resident discharged a firearm and one of the dogs was shot while attempting to stop the attack.

Because the incident occurred nearby, school staff at Roff Public Schools briefly moved students indoors while deputies responded and assessed the situation. At no time were the school or students in immediate danger.

We appreciate the quick action by school staff and the cooperation of the community while deputies handled the call.

🌟 Heroism Is Among Us 🌟

Over the weekend in Pontotoc County, a young child went missing in a wooded area, prompting a rapid and coordinated response from multiple emergency services. While responders were preparing to search, a member of the public noticed the child in danger and acted without hesitation—rescuing the child from harm and ensuring their safe return.

This powerful moment reminds us of a timeless principle from Sir Robert Peel, the founder of modern policing:

“The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”

Public safety is a shared responsibility. Whether in uniform or not, we all have the ability—and the duty—to protect and care for one another.

Thanks to the courage of one citizen and the swift efforts of local agencies, a potentially tragic situation ended in relief and gratitude.

Let this serve as a reminder: heroism isn’t rare—it’s all around us.
We all have the power to make a difference.
💙 Thank you to all who serve, protect, and act with compassion.

👮‍♂️ Keeping Kids Safe, One Compliance Check at a Time! 👮‍♀️

Hey Pontotoc County! The Sheriff's Office will soon be conducting compliance checks for alcohol, to***co, and ma*****na sales. Why? Because protecting our kids is serious business—even if we like to keep things light.
We’re making sure that businesses aren’t selling restricted items to minors. Think of it as a friendly reminder that IDs aren’t just for show—they’re a shield for our youth. 🛡️👶
So if you're a business owner, now’s a great time to brush up on your policies and make sure your team is trained to card like pros. Because when it comes to our kids, we don’t play around.
Thanks for helping us keep Pontotoc County safe, responsible, and full of bright futures. 💙
