Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management (CNEM) is committed to serving citizens who need emergency assistance while working to safeguard life and property from all hazards and threats, and to protect the culture and economy of the Chickasaw Nation. CNEM coordinates with local, state, tribal and federal disaster relief and public safety entities, both within and outside the Chickasaw Nation. Through planning, preparation and a variety of resources, CNEM is ready to respond and protect citizens during times of natural disasters and other catastrophic, unexpected events. The CNEM service area includes the Chickasaw Nation’s treaty territory of 7,648 square miles and encompasses all or parts of 13 Oklahoma counties: Bryan, Carter, Coal, Garvin, Grady, Jefferson, Johnston, Love, Marshall, McClain, Murray, Pontotoc and Stephens. The burn bans in Bryan, Carter, Coal, Garvin, Grady, Johnston, Love, Marshall, Murray, Pontotoc and Stephens counties have been lifted. Burn bans remain in effect for Jefferson County and McClain County. They are set to expire Monday, Oct. 12.

Even with the recent beneficial rainfall in our area, residents are reminded to practice proper fire safety, especially inside their homes.

Travelers headed to the Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival Saturday, Oct. 3 should expect fog and note the following road closure.

State Highway 7 will close at State Highway 1 in Johnston County.

Eastbound and westbound State Highway 7 will be closed in both directions east of Sulphur beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, continuing through 5 p.m. Monday for work scheduled by BNSF Railway. The roadway will remain closed until operations are complete.

Drivers should locate an alternate route and expect delays.

Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival is just a few days away! As exciting as that is, it is important to remember safety first.

Here are some things to remember while doing strenuous activities outdoors:

- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
- Wear sunscreen and possibly a hat to block your face.
- Keep an eye on children and monitor elderly/vulnerable groups.
- Take frequent breaks in the shade or a place with air conditioning to cool down and rehydrate.
- Don’t forget to eat!

Emergency kits come in all shapes and sizes. It is important to have an emergency kit full of important documents, electronics, safety supplies and food in cases of emergencies.

However, it can be overwhelming if you do not know where to start. Take a look at Ready.gov and download a checklist to get started.

Remember, emergencies also happen on the road. Be sure to have an emergency car kit with jumper cables, flashlights, first-aid kits, water, snacks, chargers and more.

Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival is almost here. As you begin preparing for this exciting event, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

- Remember where you parked your vehicle and be sure to lock it.
- Take a current photo of your group and/or children to share just in case of an emergency.
- Dress in bright colors so you can be seen more easily.
- Have an emergency plan that details where to meet if separated, such as First Aid or Information Center booths.
- Connect with Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department on-site for any emergency assistance.

The Chickasaw Nation and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) honored the dedicated service and support of agencies and individuals who partnered in resolving the long-running search for missing persons Molly Miller, a Chickasaw citizen, and C**t Haynes.

We were pleased to present TEXSAR: Texas Search and Rescue with a special award recognizing their outstanding partnership and service, and BIA Special Agent Vincent Marcellino for appreciation of his exceptional service and leadership. We are grateful for the expertise, contributions and collaboration of both TEXSAR and Agent Marcellino.

In February, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department and the BIA’s Missing and Murdered Unit initiated a search operation involving the coordinated efforts of Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management, FBI, Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and TEXSAR, resulting in the discovery of evidence that concluded the search.

We appreciate those honored today, as well as each partnering agency and individuals involved. By working together, we demonstrated the importance of collaboration and were able to provide some degree of closure for the impacted families.
