Summer is going to the dogs!

Bring your four-legged friend to the Addison Athletic Club outdoor pool for Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, September 12, and let them cool off with a swim before the pool closes for the season. Small dogs will have the pool from 9:30 to 10:30am, followed by large dogs from 10:45am to noon.

Advance registration is available online or at the Athletic Club front desk. All dogs must have a current rabies vaccination, and only dogs are allowed in the water.

Pizza night is over, but where does the box go next?

The answer depends on how much of dinner was left behind.

Clean, grease-free sections of a pizza box can be recycled, but cardboard that is greasy or covered with cheese, sauce, or other food residue belongs in the trash. If only part of the box is soiled, simply tear off the dirty portion and recycle the rest.

Taking a few seconds to separate clean cardboard from food-soiled pieces helps keep contaminants out of the recycling stream and gives the recyclable part of your pizza box a second life.

Budget conversations continued at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, with Public Works and Engineering Director Becky Diviney highlighting completed, underway, and planned pedestrian improvements throughout Addison.

As part of the proposed FY2027 Budget, staff presented plans for pedestrian improvements at Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway, beginning on the south side of the intersection. While the Town has a larger vision for improving this crossing, broader improvements will require coordination with the City of Dallas and the North Texas Tollway Authority. In the meantime, staff proposed a plan to move forward with enhancements including planters and lighting to help make the crossing safer and more visible.

Council also discussed potential improvements at Midway Road and Beltway Drive to make crossing Midway safer and more visible.

Addison Oktoberfest returns September 17 through 20, and volunteers are needed to help make the four-day celebration a success. Opportunities include staffing booths, assisting with family-friendly activities, and helping with event setup and cleanup.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and will receive two guest tickets, along with additional volunteer perks.

At its August 25 meeting, the City Council approved two items supporting the development of 29 new for-sale townhomes at 4850 Airport Parkway, near Quorum Drive. The 1.57-acre property is currently vacant.

Council approved rezoning the property to allow the townhomes, as well as an economic development agreement with Cobalt Homes. The project represents approximately $14.7 million in private investment and is expected to increase the property’s taxable value from approximately $770,000 to $17.4 million.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of our first responders and for the neighboring agencies who are always ready to step in and support our community when needed. Thank you for all you do to keep Addison safe!

Take a colorful trip back in time with "Technology and Midcentury America," a new exhibit featuring the work of Texas artist Blake Harris. 🎨

Drawing on his experience in advertising and design, Harris explores the unique shapes, colors, and personalities of midcentury technology and how it compares with the sleek glass screens that surround us today.

The exhibit is free and open to the public now through September 30 at Addison Town Hall, 15600 Addison Road. Stop by Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to experience it.

Mayor Bruce Arfsten, Deputy Mayor Pro Tempore Darren Gardner, and Addison’s Economic Development team recently visited AV Express, a wholesale provider of audio and visual equipment located in Addison’s industrial district.

AV Express provides technology for commercial and residential projects, from home entertainment systems to professional audio and visual solutions. During the visit, the team toured the company’s showroom, where customers can experience products firsthand and explore customized solutions for a variety of spaces.

Atmos Energy is rerouting a gas line near Belt Line Road and Winnwood Road. As part of this work, crews will be boring underneath Belt Line Road near the north entrance to the White Rock Creek Trail.

Construction activity is expected near the trail entrance for approximately 30 days.

The trail will remain open throughout the work. Trail users should be aware of crews and construction activity in the area and use caution when passing through.
