Addison Central School District

Addison Central School District The Addison Central School District is a dynamic organization proudly committed to excellence in preparing every student to become successful.

Addison Central School serves approximately 1,178 students in one Pre-K school, one elementary school and one middle-high school building. Our staff is composed of 130 full and part-time teachers and teaching assistants and 112 support staff members. The administrative team includes the Superintendent, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, High School Principal, Middle School Principal, Elementary

School Principal, Supervisor of Special Education and a Business Administrator. Our district strives to ensure the success of our students. We employ the concepts of the “Thoughtful Classroom,” a staff development program designed to boost academic performance in schools. The district is generally residential and agricultural. Settled in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, the Addison area is comprised of rural communities that have maintained their charming identity and quaintness in the rolling hills of New York State’s Southern Tier. The area is noted for its outdoor recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, camping and boating. There is a nine-hole golf course within the district and several 18-hole golf courses nearby. Pinnacle State Park and forest preserves are within district boundaries and NYS Finger Lakes are within reasonable proximity.

Mrs. Miller’s second grade class has been hard at work and recently had an exciting and memorable learning experience. The classroom welcomed special visitors, Mrs. Zimar and Mrs. Lee, who introduced students to virtual reality (VR) headsets.
With their help, students embarked on immersive virtual field trips to two incredible environments—the ocean and the Amazon rainforest. Through the VR experience, the children were able to feel as if they were truly inside these distant ecosystems.
During their underwater adventure, students explored the ocean and observed a variety of sea life in its natural habitat. They then journeyed to the Amazon, where they experienced the sights and sounds of the rainforest and encountered many native animals. This learning experience sparked curiosity and excitement, allowing students to connect with science and nature in a whole new way.

This week at Valley, we had our We Are Family event. Students got to bring their family to school with them and enjoy bounce houses, popcorn, snow cones, animal balloons and face painting. Thank you to Ms. Heather from Tuscarora for making balloon animals, and to all our face painters along with everyone that helped! The kids had an absolute blast! At Knights Know It this week, we talked about Memorial Day. Mrs. Wright shared the following poem:

Memorial Day
Red is for poppy bright,
Blowing in the warm sunlight,
Blue is for the sky above,
Showing our big country love.
Mix them up, what do you see?
Purple is for BRAVERY!
On this say we say,
Thank you on Memorial Day!

After we talked about the poem, Mrs. Wright talked about how red and blue, both from the poem, make the third color in the poem, purple. Then we marched around the cafe waving our flags to a song about Memorial Day.
