Adel Rotary Club's 10-person Bike was on the move again on Friday to participate in the Bike Ride from Waukee to Adel to recognize the re-opening of the Adel Lighted Bridge with its newly installed approach, replacing the one burned 15 months ago! Members riding and on hand for the Ribbon Cutting were Rylan Vos, Doug Pfeiffer, and Tim Gootee, as well as friends and family.

Rick Stammer is Rotary District 6000 Chair of the Rotary Youth Exchange programs. 400 districts in 51 countries, involving 4,500 clubs and 22,000 volunteers, sponsor 7,800 students in Rotary exchange programs worldwide!
Rick, himself, was an exchange student in Germany and still keeps in touch with his host families. He understands the impact on students that their experiences have in fostering peace and understanding between peoples.
Opportunities for like-age-and-gender exchanges, where both students spend 4 weeks there and 4 weeks here together, require no visa for this short-term but still valuable program
Adel Rotary has sponsored RYE students in the past and looks forward to doing so again.

The Rotary Club of Adel has long been a supporter of literacy programs at the ADM Schools. One such project is providing new books for the Book Vending Machine at Meadow View Elementary School. Students can earn vending machine coins for various academic, leadership, and character achievements throughout the year.
An emphasis this past year was on reading fluency and closing the gap with rewards for growth. Success can be hard for struggling readers so meeting incremental goals can be motivation for more success. What is even more rewarding is that all of the students share in the successes with their cheers and high-fives when students select their new books!

Pictured are Adel Rotary President Ellie Mendlik Howard and Steve Conard conducting the drawing at our meeting on Wednesday to find the winner of the 50/50 Raffle at the Adel Sweet Corn Festival on Saturday. Matt Ireland works in cybersecurity but has long served on the Adel Fire Department and as a First Responder. He also has several roles with Dallas County, one of which is a Medical Examiner Investigator. Investigators are dispatched when there is an unattended death, like a traffic accident or death at home, to serve as the eyes and ears of the Dallas County Medical Examiner. While manner and cause of death is determined, Matt is also there to serve the family to answer questions, to navigate the system, and to be a bridge to coordinate with the funeral home.

Adel Rotary's Water Sales Fundraiser was an opportunity to thank our community for its support and tell our story of "Service Above Self." The Corn Water Bottles were a big hit and we hope to bring them back next year for those that didn't get one on Saturday!

The 2026 Adel Sweet Corn Festival is in the books! Adel Rotary entered the multi-person bike in the parade on Saturday and caught the eye of onlookers, young and old!
Riding in front is Rylan Vos, who restored the bike, and Tim Gootee (blue Rotary shirt) along with some friends and family of Rotary. The first picture was taken by Shirley McAdon, the second by Chase Bullman, Meteorologist at Local 5 News, who remarked "ok this is by far the best float I've ever seen. We could not stop giggling at this. Shout out Adel Rotary Club."
