🎉 Congratulations to our six new Hospice of Lenawee Volunteers!

Pictured are Karen, Deitrel, Amy, Sharon, Katee and Maria. They committed to four days (24 hours) of volunteer training, diving into all that Hospice of Lenawee is about and how we support individuals at end-of-life.

One of our newest volunteers, Deitrel, described the experience as “very well-structured and informative. My biggest takeaway is that every single staff and volunteer has a genuine heart not just for the patients but also for the families and the community.”

We’re so proud to welcome these six wonderful people into our team. Soon, they’ll be serving our mission in ways uniquely suited to their gifts and hearts.

If you’re interested in exploring volunteer opportunities with Hospice of Lenawee, please reach out to Heather Rowe, Director of Volunteers, at 517-263-2323.

Thank you, team—together we make a difference in lives, families and our community. 💙

🌼 Behind the Heart: The Role of a CNA at Hospice of Lenawee 🌼

At Hospice of Lenawee, every member of our care team plays a vital role — and our Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are true champions of compassion. They aren’t just caregivers; they are comforters, companions, and advocates for our patients and families during one of life’s most intimate and important journeys. (Pictured from Left to Right: Dorothy, Caitlin, Brittany, Cindy, Rachel, Kim)

Here’s a glimpse into what our CNAs do every day:

🧼 Personal Care with Dignity

Our CNAs assist patients with their daily living activities — bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and toileting. They help maintain dignity and comfort when independence may be dwindling.

They also support mobility — helping patients reposition, transfer, or just find a comfortable spot.

💬 Emotional Support & Companionship

Hospice care is about more than just the physical needs. Our CNAs are present for the gentle moments: listening, offering a comforting hand, sharing a laugh, being a calm presence when things are uncertain.

📋 Observation, Communication & Teamwork

Because our CNAs spend so much time with patients, they are the “eyes and ears” of the team. They notice subtle changes in condition, mood, appetite or mobility — and report these to the nurse or care team, so that the plan of care can continue to best reflect a patient’s needs.

🍴 Nutrition & Environment Support

They assist with feeding or offering nourishment when appetite is limited. They help keep the patient’s space clean, comfortable, safe — changing linens, tidying, ensuring the environment supports comfort and peace.

🌿 A Special Calling

Working in hospice care is uniquely challenging and deeply rewarding. Our CNAs bring compassion, patience, observation, adaptability — and the willingness to walk alongside patients and families through deeply personal moments.

👉 If you’ve ever wondered who is quietly bringing comfort, preserving dignity, offering support when it matters most — our CNAs are doing that work. They are integral to ensuring that at Hospice of Lenawee, our patients are supported physically, emotionally, and spiritually — where they call home.

If you’re considering a career in care, or want to learn more about what CNA roles look like at Hospice of Lenawee, we’d love to talk with you. 💛

🌟 Meet Our Weekend Warrior Nurses! 🌟

Every weekend, our team is supported by two dedicated “Weekend Warrior” nurses, Ashley Higgins and Michaela Horgan, who step in to ensure our patients and families receive consistent, compassionate care even when many of our weekday staff are off.

These remarkable professionals:

• Cover for our case managers — making sure no question goes unanswered and no need goes unmet over the weekend
• Follow up on triage calls promptly, ensuring that urgent concerns are addressed and patients/families feel supported
• Conduct in-person visits with patients on weekends, maintaining continuity of care and peace of mind for families

We couldn’t do it without our Weekend Warriors. Their commitment means that whether it’s Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening, our patients and families have a skilled clinical partner they can count on.

👏 A huge thank you to our weekend nurses for being there when it really matters—your dedication makes a difference.

If you or a loved one are in need of hospice care or have questions about our services on weekends, we’re here to help — day or weekend, Hospice of Lenawee has your back.

🎃👻 Spooktacular Outreach Alert! 👻🎃

Our community liaison duo, Lupe Salazar Hamden & Dave Ross from Hospice of Lenawee, had a blast hitting up Trunk or Treat events at three spots around town — at Lenawee Medical Care Facility, Twin Pines Eatery & Putt and Charlotte Stephenson Assisted Living.

They handed out treats, shared smiles, and made new friends — because outreach doesn’t have to be serious all the time 😊.

And yes — even our fearless leader, Travis Havens (President & CEO), joined the fun in a bat-eye Halloween mask that may or may not have caused a few double-takes. 🕷️🎭

We love being part of this community, and events like these remind us that care, connection, and a little whimsy can go hand in hand. Thanks to everyone who came out, and if you missed us this time — stay tuned for the next one!

🎉 What a blast it was for the team at Hospice of Lenawee! We hosted an epic staff and employee tailgate party to celebrate the game between the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans — and it was a hit!

🌮 Our taco bar in the conference room ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and the spread was delicious!

🎲 Outside, yard games were going strong: Corn Hole, Connect Four, and Granny Pants Ball (yes — catching those balls in the pants!)

👕 We saw plenty of school-shirts, big smiles, friendly rivalry, and lots of fun.

Thank you to all our employees and staff for coming out, bringing the spirit, and making the afternoon unforgettable. Here’s to more fun, great food, and friendly competition! 🥳

Hospice of Lenawee had an incredibly fun time with the team at Creek Enterprises for a Charcuterie Party. The owner purchased this experience during the live auction at our Annual Fundraiser in June, and it was a pleasure to bring it to life.

Our Director of Development, Heather Perez, and her mom, Diane, led a hands-on class on building beautiful boards. A special thank-you to Terry Johnston for crafting custom charcuterie boards for each employee—a generous and memorable touch.

Thank you, Creek Enterprises, for your warm welcome and partnership. We truly enjoyed getting to know your team.
