Town of Afton

Town of Afton Visit us at www.aftonwyoming.gov Today! Official website for the Town of Afton, Wyoming. Serving the residents of Afton since 1904.

The population was 1,911 at the 2010 census. Afton is home to the world's largest arch made of elk antlers. Spanning 75 feet (23 m) across the four lanes of US Highway 89, the arch consists of 3,011 elk antlers and weighs 15 tons. Also located just east of Town, Swift Creek Canyon is just a few minutes drive from Town. During the summer when the spring is most active, visitors will be able to witn

ess Afton’s main water source intermit in 15 minute cycles. The half hour hike up to the mouth of the canyon is well worth the visit for residents and tourists alike. To date no one has been able to prove conclusively why the spring intermits. A leading theory by a hydrologist from the University of Utah theorizes that the spring discharges spring runoff from the mountain when enough water has been collected, creating a siphon effect of sorts. The spring is located at the end of a scenic gravel road in the Swift Creek Canyon, approximately five miles east of Afton.

NOTICE: SEWER MAIN LINE CLEANING

The Town of Afton will be conducting routine sewer mainline cleaning August 24–28 and August 31–September 4 within the central area of Town, generally between 1st Avenue and 9th Avenue and Monroe Street and Lincoln Street.

During the cleaning process, air pressure within the sewer main may occasionally travel through residential service lines. While uncommon, this can cause minor splashing or disturbance from toilets or floor drains in some homes.

As a simple precaution during the cleaning period, residents in the affected area are encouraged to:

Keep toilet lids closed when not in use.
Place a towel over the floor drains.
These measures are precautionary and can help minimize any effects from temporary air pressure created during routine sewer cleaning.

Thank you for your cooperation as the Town completes this important system maintenance.
