From the Afton Police Department,

Parents, please remind children to not be playing near the irrigation ditch in Canyon View or any area where there is swift running water. The current is strong enough at this time that if a small child does fall in, the current will sweep them downstream and possibly take them into a culvert.

As the public may have heard, a child did go into the water in Canyon View Park and into a culvert. The child was rescued due to the quick response and action taken by the Afton Fire Department. The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Although other emergency services were on scene, a big "Thank You" goes to the volunteer firefighters of the Afton Fire Department for this rescue!!

Spring and summer have finally arrived. It is at this time we begin enjoying the outdoors more. However, we have seen an increase in the use of e-bikes and electric motorcycles in the Town of Afton.
As electric bicycles (e-bikes) and electric motorcycles have become increasingly popular, here some things to remember. To be considered an electric bicycle (e-bike), it must have working pedals. If your e-bike does not have pedals, it is considered an electric motorcycle.
Electric motorcycles must be registered, have lights, insurance, and be operated by a licensed driver, the same as any motorcycle or ATV on the roadway.
Electric Bicycle Regulations (W.S. 31-5-707 & 31-1-101)
Definition: Electric bicycles must have fully operable pedals, a seat, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (approximately 1 horsepower).
Classes:
Class 1: Pedal-assist only, the motor stops once the bike reaches 20 mph.
Class 2: Throttle-assisted, the motor ceases assistance once the bike reaches 20 mph. Class 3: Pedal-assist only, the motor ceases assistance once the bike reaches 28 mph.
E-motorcycles have the ability to go faster than an e-bike (almost 60 mph) and do not have pedals.
Rider Rules: E-bikes are allowed on bike paths but not generally on sidewalks. We ask that anyone riding an E-bike to walk their bike on the sidewalk in the area of the 400 and 500 blocks of South Washington so as not to cause any hazards with the heavy pedestrian traffic we are anticipating during the summer months.
We also ask anyone using the crosswalk to please walk their bicycle and e-bike while crossing the road.

May 14, 2026, through May 29, 2026. Anyone interested in seeking a seat on the Afton Town Council must register by 5:00 p.m. on May 29, 2026.

 Two (2) Town Council seats – four-year terms
 One (1) Town Council seat – two-year term
 One (1) Mayor – four-year term

NOTICE:

The Silver Brook Estates Major Subdivision Application will no longer be discussed during the meetings scheduled for February 2, 2026, and February 10, 2026, and will instead be addressed in the March meetings. A letter from the applicant was received on January 28, 2026, requesting that the application be postponed.

The Afton Planning and Zoning Board will now receive public input, protests and comments at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 2, 2026, in the council chambers at the Afton Town Hall, regarding the Major Subdivision Application. Further hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 5:30 P.M. by the Afton Town Council at the Afton Town Hall, located at 416 S. Washington Street.

The submitted application includes a Master Plan and a Traffic Impact Study, both of which will be accessible for review at Town Hall.
