NOTICE: CHANGES IN SERVICE BY ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL
Following the increased and overwhelming concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (Department) has decided to close all Los Angeles County Animal Care Centers (ACC) to the public beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.
Animal control officers will continue to respond to animal welfare and public safety calls.
Certain services will be made available by appointment only. We value the health and safety of our residents, their pets, the animals in our care, and our employees, and hold these health considerations at the forefront of all operational decisions.
During this time, service changes will include:
Pet adoptions will be by appointment only. Please call your ACC at the phone number located below.
If you believe your pet is being cared for at an Animal Care Center, please call to schedule an appointment to bring your pet home.
Owner surrenders will not be received until further notice.
We encourage those who have lost or found pets to download the SHADOW app—which can also be accessed on our website—and, if possible, to foster those pets temporarily.
The Department will not be accepting stray, healthy cats, but any sick or injured cats can still be brought into the ACCs by appointment.
Our Animal Control Officers will continue to respond to public safety and animal welfare calls such as dangerous dogs, sick/ill animals, police assistance, animal cruelty investigations, patrols, and dead animal reports.
Less urgent calls will be deferred until further notice.
We ask the public to renew pet licenses by mail or online by going to our website. Pet licenses will not be sold at the animal care centers at this time.
Pet owners will be given a 30-day grace period for late license submittal.
During this closure, the health and safety of the animals in our care remains our top priority.
Please know that during this time, no animals will be euthanized unless they are irremediably suffering, dangerous, or unable to eat without assistance.

Hi! I’m NICO! I’m a 6 year old pit bull and currently live at Agoura Animal Care Center. My former family says I’m good with small children and I get along well with cats. I’m fabulous on a leash, treat motivated (the more treats the better!) and best of all, I know my commands. Just ask the volunteers here how awesome I am since I’m always hearing I’m their favorite – but don’t tell the other dogs that, they might get jealous. Puppy is a 6 year old puppy! He jumps excitedly for treats and eagerly crawls into your arms to be carried. While he has plenty of energy, he seems happiest when nuzzled into the crook of your arm. His crooked little mouth is always grinning and he's bursting with love. You can meet Puppy at his current home in kennel A019 at the Agoura Animal Care Center.
Lucy is a gentle, sweet, 8 year old little lady. She came in as a stray with Puppy and while she gets along great with him they don't necessarily need to go home together. She's easygoing and readily accepts whatever love (or food!) is offered. Give her a few moments and she'll be sitting next to you, as content as can be. She can be visited at her temporary home in kennel A019 at the Agoura Animal Care Center.

Ruffalo is currently the longest resident at the Agoura Animal Shelter, through no fault of his own! He recently had surgery to fix a luxating patella, but it's clear that once he returns to full health he'll make a fantastic companion for an active family. When it's not time to play, he'll lean his whole body into you for affection, savoring each little bit of attention.

I’m a male, orange tabby, domestic short hair. My friends think I’m about 7 years old. I came to the shelter as a surrender. I was with my previous family for about 5 years and spent most of my time inside. My family had to move away so now I get to love a new family! I like other cats and I’m very friendly and outgoing. I like my face rubbed and my chin scratched. One of my photographers, Nikki, thinks I’m a handsome cool cat.
Bella is an 11 year old sweetheart. She's clearly been a mama a few times and now is looking for a home where she can be the one who gets pampered and adored. This little low rider moves like a much younger dog in spite of legs that all seemed to got the memo to grow at different times. She loves to flop into you and will happily receive belly rubs all day long. Bella loves the sight of a leash and the sight of food; hopefully a good balance of both will keep this puddle of love svelte, healthy and loved for years to come!

Chester is a sweet older gentleman who wants nothing more than to snuggle up in his forever home. He moves slowly and purposefully, and savors every moment with you. Chester loves treats and will take them gently from you, sitting and offering a paw in exchange. He'd be best as an only dog but loves all people. Though seemingly not old enough to have lost his sight & hearing at just age 8 we wonder if he’s been this way a good portion of his life. To watch him navigate his kennel & the play cage is a wonder. He seems to avoid bumping into barriers and when he does it tends to be a gentle bump.
Alfred came to us from our Downey Animal Care Center. Since he’s been with us we’ve found him to be the sweetest little Chi! He senses when we enter the space he’s in, he’ll immediately seek us out. A kiss is usually offered once he’s found his human visitor.😍
