Here's a description:
What will The Parent Support Clubs look like? There will be two of Holt’s PACE social workers who will facilitate each group. Each of the six weeks we have designated a topic to address that particularly pertains to your child’s developmental stage. These issues may include (dependent upon age group): development (typical and adoptee specific), communication, behaviors, TBRI principles, felt-safety, school issues, building community, adoptee identity, and racial identity. All of these will be looked at through the adoption lens and there will be time for lots of discussion. Our hope is that you can learn from both the PACE social workers and the other adoptive parents in the group. It’s a time for you to both explore what your child needs during this stage of life and also share with others what parenting insights you might have gathered through your lived experience. We want this to be an interactive time for all attending. And most of all we want it to work for you and meet your needs.

It costs $99 for the six weeks and you can sign up on the links above.
*note: in order to facilitate the group we need a minimum of five families registered

Encourage the positive
Anytime we use corrective principles with our children it should be followed by five positive statements. It is powerful to practice character praise – praising things like creativity, humor, kindness, focus, calmness, etc – more that the physical attributes or external accomplishments of your child. Consistently praising your child for correct behavior, even the smallest step, will yield big results! By acknowledging the positives it not only praises them for the good thing they just did but it also teaches them that this is how they should behave in the future. It is important to be very intentional in looking for the positives even during corrective moments. For example: “Wow, I really like how well you are paying attention. Now can you use your words to tell me what you need?” Praise is an integral part of TBRI.

If you are interested in personalized support and coaching on how to implement TBRI principles with your child please contact us at [email protected].

If you use code: TBRI, you will receive 50% off your three coaching sessions (code is good through end of December).

Make it Right
When your child hurts someone, it is important to address it immediately and firmly. By interrupting the unwanted behavior and giving the opportunity for a re-do and to make amends with the person they hurt, it will help them achieve success. They can Make it Right by apologizing, and even going so far as to do something thoughtful or positive that demonstrates kindness. After teaching them what it means to Make it Right, you can just say this phrase and they will understand what to do. Please note that it’s important to label the behavior as bad or unwanted, while still making the child feel loved and accepted.

If you are interested in personalized support and coaching on how to implement TBRI principles with your child please contact us at [email protected].
