Words of wisdom from our volunteer firefighters. Please take the necessary precautions so they can stay home and remain safe, warm and dry.
With the predicted historic winter storm expected to impact our area beginning today and continuing into early Tuesday, we want to ensure residents understand the potential challenges that emergency responders may face during this event.
Heavy snowfall combined with strong winds may create whiteout conditions, heavy drifting, and impassable roads. While our firefighters will always respond and do everything possible to reach those in need, these extreme conditions may result in longer than normal response times.
We highly encourage everyone to prepare now by making sure you have what you need to remain safe at home when travel becomes impossible.
Please consider preparing the following:
• Enough food, water, and essential supplies through Tuesday
• Medications and medical necessities
• Fuel for vehicles and generators
• Flashlights, batteries, and backup heat sources if available
Ensure your furnace vents are clear and remain so throughout the duration of the blizzard. Emergency Medical Services will likely be strained by call volume and road conditions, resulting in long response times.
Check on your neighbors, particularly the elderly and infirmed.
We will continue to monitor conditions and remain ready to respond. Your preparation and cooperation help ensure that emergency resources can be used where they are needed most during severe weather.
Please prepare, stay safe and remain off the roads if you can.
